In Netflix’s “Wayward,” police officer Alex Dempsey quickly realizes something isn’t right in the seemingly perfect small town of Tall Pines after he and his pregnant partner move there.
According to the official description, he meets Abbie and Leila, two students from a local school for troubled teenagers who are eager to leave town. They might hold the answers to the town’s hidden problems.
When Alex starts looking into a string of strange events, he begins to suspect Evelyn, the enigmatic head of the school, is somehow involved.
In a recent interview with Tudum, Martin shared that they had a difficult adolescence in the early 2000s. They also revealed that their close friend was sent to a mental health facility at age 16.
“She came back and had just the craziest stories about it,” they added.
I recently got a peek at the premise of “Wayward,” and it sounds like a really compelling watch. It’s being billed as a limited series that’s going to play with genres, focusing on the age-old conflict between generations. Apparently, it’s a story about how far people will go for their friends, and how secrets, no matter how deeply hidden, always have a way of being revealed. I’m intrigued, to say the least!

John Daniel plays Rory
Rory is a character who forms a connection with Abbie while they’re at the academy. He deeply desires a relationship with his own father, but surprisingly, he doesn’t want to connect with his son.

Brandon Jay McLaren plays Dwyane Andrews
Dwyane is a police officer with the Tall Pines department and works with Alex. He initially comes across as intimidating, to say the least.

Isolde Ardies plays Stacey
Stacey is Abbie’s roommate at Tall Pines. She’s a very intense person, and Abbie and Leile don’t trust her.

Tattiawna Jones plays Rabbit
Let me tell you about Rabbit. She basically runs the whole academy now, overseeing all the girls. Interestingly, she *was* a student there herself once. What’s really fascinating is how much she wants Evelyn to like her – she seems desperate for her approval. It’s a key part of her character, I think.

Joshua Close plays Duck
Who is Duck? Another staff member at Tall Pines. He can often be seen with a guitar in his hand.

Tricia Black plays Mule

Gage Munroe plays Riley
Who is Riley? He escapes the academy and begs the police not to send him back.

Okay, so there’s this guy, Daniel. He used to room with Riley back at Tall Pines, but he just disappeared. From what I gather, he’s carrying around a *lot* of unresolved anger, which makes me think he’s going to be a key player in all this. Honestly, I’m a little worried about what he’s capable of.

Elizabeth Adams plays Ello
Ello is a new student at Tall Pines. Before coming to the school, she struggled with heroin addiction and spent time in and out of the hospital. She currently shares a room with another student named Leile.

Patrick J Adams plays Wyatt Turner
Wyatt Turner is the principal of Abbie and Leile’s school. He first recommends that Leile go to Tall Pines, but she immediately says no.
