28 Days Later is a relentlessly intense and emotionally draining film that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Amidst the constant chaos, there’s a striking scene around the middle of the movie where the survivors – Jim, Selena, Frank, and Hannah – briefly pause their desperate escape from London to gather supplies at a grocery store.

The grocery store scene, set to Grandaddy’s “A.M. 180,” is a complete contrast to the earlier, fast-paced chase. It’s cheerful, vibrant, and feels like a music video from the late 90s or early 2000s. Re-watching it brought back memories of how much I enjoyed seeing it with friends in high school.

It’s One Of The Few Sequences Where Everyone Feels Normal And Happy

Honestly, the grocery store scene is such a blast because it’s one of the only times everyone just gets to *be*. You know, no one’s stressing about turning into a monster, or mourning lost family, or even trying to survive! I still remember being blown away by the London chase scene in the *28 Days Later* trailer – it’s the most memorable part for me. However, the supermarket scene is also fantastic. The music by Grandaddy creates a calmer mood than the frantic energy of Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s “East Hastings,” and that’s a welcome break before everything descends into chaos again.

Although the two things are very different, they both capture what made the movie great-its scares and its emotional core.
