Anthony Boyle plays Arthur Guinness

Arthur Guinness was the oldest of the Guinness brothers. He received his education at Eton and lived in London for much of his twenties.

He’s currently enjoying life in England, but he needs to return home to manage the family brewery with his brother, Edward. They’re very different people – total opposites, really – which creates a classic odd-couple dynamic. As they try to work together, things quickly get complicated and dramatic.

Anthony Boyle is also known for his work in several TV series, including *Game of Thrones*, *Derry Girls*, *Ordeal by Innocence*, *Patrick Melrose*, *Masters of the Air*, *Manhunt*, *Shardlake*, and *Say Nothing*. He’s appeared in films like *The Lost City of Z*, *Tolkien*, and *Tetris* as well.

Louis Partridge plays Edward Guinness

Edward Guinness was the youngest of the Guinness siblings and a driven individual. He began learning about the family brewery business as a teenager and quickly became very comfortable working there.

Then his older brother arrived and immediately expressed his annoyance, telling him not to assume he could just come in and start making changes. He was also clearly frustrated that he now had to handle the situation.

Edward is clearly struggling, but he believes that if he doesn’t manage the situation with his difficult siblings, it could create a public relations disaster and damage the Guinness brand.

He’s always worried and trying to hide things, but near the end he begins to understand he can finally relax and that others aren’t as different from him as he believed.

Besides his recent work, Louis Partridge has appeared in films like Paddington 2, Enola Holmes and its sequel, and Argyle, and has also been in the TV series Medici, Pistol, and Disclaimer.

Emily Fairn plays Anne Plunket

Anne Plunket was a member of the Guinness family who married a nobleman eleven years her senior in an arranged marriage.

Emily Fairn has also appeared in several TV series, including Rain Dogs, Black Mirror, COBRA, Mary & George, and The Responder. Her film credits include Saturday Night and Joy.

Fionn O’Shea plays Benjamin Guinness

Benjamin Guinness was something of a rebel in his family. He struggled with gambling and substance abuse, which led to him being seen as the family’s black sheep.

He recalled a strange moment during one of the final auditions. As he was leaving, almost as a last-ditch effort, he blurted out that his great-grandfather used to make horse bridles.

I jokingly tried to manipulate the situation by saying the ghost of my great-grandfather would haunt director Tom Shankland if I wasn’t cast. It’s actually true that my great-grandfather worked for a related family, though not quite the one involved in this project.

Besides his recent work, Fionn O’Shea has appeared in the TV series Roy, Hang Ups, Normal People, and Masters of the Air. He’s also been in the films The Aftermath and Cherry.

James Norton plays Sean Rafferty

Who is Sean Rafferty? Rafferty is the foreman of the Guinness factory and a fixer to the family.

He described the character as incredibly compelling and fun to play. What made him interesting was his complex and contradictory nature – a puzzle you could endlessly explore. While definitely frightening, the character wasn’t afraid to use force when necessary.

He manages the brewery, essentially running everything, but he’s also a tough character – a bit intimidating, even. He’s not afraid to use force to maintain control, but surprisingly, he’s also a man of strong principles, earning him the respect of others. He has a genuine warmth and a confident, playful personality.

Director Tom Shankland, who started us off, really helped me connect with the role. I think Rafferty genuinely enjoys being himself, and it’s a joy to play a character like that. He’s endlessly fascinating, actually – I still feel like I’m discovering new things about him. He remains a bit of a mystery.

James Norton is an actor who’s appeared in many popular shows and movies. Some of his notable TV roles include appearances in *Doctor Who*, *War & Peace*, *Black Mirror*, *McMafia*, *Grantchester*, *The Trial of Christine Keeler*, *Happy Valley*, *The Nevers*, *Playing Nice*, and *King & Conqueror*. He’s also been in films like *Rush*, *Belle*, *Mr. Turner*, *Hampstead*, *Little Women*, *Bob Marley: One Love*, and *Joy*.

Niamh McCormack plays Ellen Cochrane

Ellen Cochrane is an Irish Republican with strong beliefs. She is the twin sister of Patrick Cochrane and opposes the Guinness family’s influence in Ireland.

She clearly recognized a great opportunity and didn’t hesitate to invest in it. There’s a particularly strong scene in episode 3 featuring Edward and Ellen.

There’s a lot of tension and maneuvering happening, and both characters are fiercely holding their positions. She’s particularly strong and feels very contemporary. What makes Steven Knight such a talented writer is his ability to create characters that feel incredibly real and alive.

Niamh McCormack has appeared in several TV series, including “The Witcher,” “Witness Number 3,” “Willow,” “Everything Now,” and “Small Town, Big Story.” She also starred in the film “Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves.”

Danielle Galligan plays Lady Olivia Hedges

Lady Olivia Hedges is a young woman from a formerly wealthy, but now poor, noble family. She eventually marries Arthur.

Throughout the series, Olivia’s story reflects the experiences of many Irish women throughout history. It was incredibly important to me to handle that story with care and respect.

Besides her current work, Danielle Galligan has appeared in several other TV series, including Game of Thrones, Krypton, The Great, Shadow and Bone, Kin, and Obituary.

Jack Gleeson plays Byron Hedges

Byron Hedges is a relative of Lady Olivia. She works for Edward and travels to New York on business for the company.

It honestly felt like I’d stepped back in time – not into the future of 2025, but into the 1870s. The incredible sets and the work of all the different creative departments truly transported me, and it was a wonderful experience to be involved.

Jack Gleeson is most famous for his role as Joffrey in Game of Thrones. He’s also appeared in several other shows like Sex Education, The Famous Five, Safe Harbor, and The Sandman, and in the film Batman Begins.

Dervla Kirwan plays Aunt Agnes Guinness

Aunt Agnes Guinness is a senior member of the Guinness family and the aunt to the main characters.

Dervla Kirwan has appeared in several popular TV shows, including “Goodnight Sweetheart,” “The Vicar of Dibley,” “Ballykissangel,” “Doctor Who,” “Strangers,” “Silent Witness,” “The Stranger,” “The Reunion,” and “True Detective.”

Ann Skelly plays Adelaide Guinness

Who is Adelaide Guinness? Adelaide is a Guinness cousin with progressive sensibilities.

Ann Skelly has appeared in several TV series, including Playground, Red Rock, Vikings, The Nevers, and The Sandman.

Seamus O’Hara plays Patrick Cochrane

Who is Patrick Cochrane? Patrick is Ellen’s twin, an Irish Republican activist with a quick temper.

Seamus O’Hara has appeared in several popular TV shows and movies, including “Line of Duty,” “Game of Thrones,” “Shadow and Bone,” “Blue Lights,” and “Say Nothing.” He’s also been in the films “The Northman” and “Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves.”

Michael McElhatton plays John Potter

Who is John Potter? John is a loyal servant of the Guinness family.

Michael McElhatton is also known for his work on several TV shows, including Ripper Street, The Fall, Game of Thrones, Genius, Chernobyl, Dangerous Liaisons, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Wheel of Time, The Long Shadow, and The Dry.

Jessica Reynolds plays Lady Christine O’Madden

Lady Christine O’Madden comes from a noble Irish family and feels drawn to Benjamin.

Besides her current work, Jessica Reynolds has appeared in shows like Derry Girls and Outlander, and the film Kneecap.

Elizabeth Dulau plays Lady Henrietta St Lawrence

Lady Henrietta St. Lawrence comes from a noble Irish family and is also interested in Benjamin.

Elizabeth Dulau is most recognized for her role as Kleya in Andor. She’s also appeared in several other projects, including the series Gentleman Jack, The Outlaws, Maternal, and All the Light We Cannot See, and the film Wicked.

Michael Colgan plays Reverend Henry Gratton

Reverend Henry Gratton is a preacher trying to get as much money as possible from the estate of Sir Benjamin, intending to use it for his charity.

Michael Colgan has appeared in several popular TV series, including Silent Witness, The Thick of It, The Fall, Happy Valley, Marcella, The Crown, This England, The Regime, and Say Nothing.

David Wilmot plays Bonnie Champion

Who is Bonnie Champion? Bonnie is a racketeer who runs the distribution of Guinness barrels.

David Wilmot is known for his work in a variety of TV series and films. On television, he’s appeared in shows like The Clinic, The Tudors, Ripper Street, The Alienist, The Crown, Station Eleven, Bodkin, and Small Town, Big Story. His film credits include Anna Karenina, Calvary, ’71, Breathe, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Little Joe, Calm with Horses, The Wonder, and the upcoming film Hamnet.
