Even Marvel’s Kevin Feige has acknowledged they made too many TV shows for Disney+ too quickly, driven by the need for more streaming content. However, some of those shows did really well. Many fans consider X-Men ’97 to be the best – it’s a continuation of the popular X-Men: The Animated Series from the 1990s. The first season of X-Men ’97 was very well-received when it came out last year, and fans are excited for more. A second season is being made, though we don’t know when it will be released. The good news is that future seasons might not take as long to arrive.
As a huge Marvel fan, I was thrilled to hear Brad Winderbaum talk about what’s coming for shows like *X-Men ’97* and *Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man*. He said we can expect new seasons of both shows every year! That’s fantastic news because it means they can really build out these stories over a longer period of time, instead of rushing things. It sounds like we’re in for a really great ride with these animated series.
Marvel’s Changing Strategy for TV Shows
As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been hearing a lot about how things are changing at Marvel Studios after the mixed response to the Multiverse Saga. Apparently, they’re hitting the brakes a bit on how much content they’re releasing, both in theaters and on Disney+. What’s really interesting is they’re now aiming for more shows that can run for several seasons, releasing a new season each year. It’s a big shift from how they started with Disney+ – a lot of those first shows felt like long movies chopped up into episodes. Honestly, only *Loki* and *What If…?* actually got picked up for more than one season, so it sounds like they’re learning from that experience and focusing on building shows with real staying power.
Marvel is putting a new plan into action, and we’re seeing it with the show *Daredevil: Born Again*. Although Season 2 won’t be out until next year, Season 3 is already confirmed and scheduled to film in 2026, likely meaning it will premiere in 2027. It appears Marvel wants to use this approach with its animated series as well, which is great news for shows like *X-Men ’97* and *Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man*.
Marvel benefits from releasing new seasons of its shows every year. Streaming series often lose viewers when there are long delays between seasons – some *Stranger Things* fans, for example, are less excited about the final season because it’s taken so long to arrive. *X-Men ’97* was a big success, successfully bringing back a popular show while also updating it for a new audience. Marvel wants to keep that momentum going, so consistent yearly releases are a smart move. In the entertainment world, it’s often best to capitalize on success while audiences are still engaged.
The decision to release *X-Men ’97* in yearly seasons is great news for the show’s creators. It gives them the time and space needed to develop characters and storylines fully, without feeling rushed. Knowing the show has a secure future allows for natural, organic storytelling, much like a traditional TV series. Judging by Season 1, *X-Men ’97* could be as good as, or even better than, the original series. The X-Men universe is filled with compelling characters and stories, and this approach lets them truly shine.
