Nintendo announced that Doug Bowser, president and COO of Nintendo of America, will retire on December 31, 2025. He’s been a leader at the company for ten years and will be replaced by Devon Pritchard, a 19-year veteran of the gaming industry. Pritchard is already a key leader within Nintendo of America, ensuring a smooth handover.
Satoru Shibata and Doug Bowser are both stepping into new leadership roles at Nintendo of America. Shibata will become CEO while continuing his existing responsibilities at Nintendo. As part of these changes, Bowser will join Nintendo of America’s board of directors and become an executive officer.
Doug Bowser started at Nintendo of America in 2015 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He later became Senior Vice President and played a key role in launching and promoting the Nintendo Switch in North America. When Reggie Fils-Aimé retired in 2019, Bowser became the President of Nintendo of America.
Bowser shared that one of his first video game memories is playing the original Donkey Kong arcade game. He added that he and his family have always loved Nintendo, and that it’s been an incredible honor to lead Nintendo of America. He’s especially proud of the team’s achievements and the fun experiences they’ve created for players.
It’s the right time for new leadership, and Devon has consistently proven her abilities. Her promotion recognizes her excellent work and the important role she’s played in helping the company succeed. I’m certain she’ll lead us to continued growth and success.
Before her promotion, Pritchard held several leadership roles at Nintendo of America, gaining experience in areas like marketing, legal agreements, and working with partners. She currently leads the company’s efforts in generating revenue, marketing to customers, and improving their overall experience.
Honestly, I’m super honored and thrilled to be stepping into this role! Doug was an amazing mentor, and I’m really excited to take what he’s built and run with it. Nintendo has such incredible characters and worlds that appeal to everyone, so my main goal is to keep that magic going for our longtime fans – you know, keep surprising and delighting you all! – but also make sure new players feel welcome and fall in love with Nintendo too.
Nintendo concluded the announcement with a message from president Shuntaro Furukawa, thanking Bowser for his contributions to the launch and promotion of both the Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2.
