I tested the HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless gaming headset and its RGB Base Station for two weeks to see how well they perform while gaming.
The HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless is a great headset for people who really care about sound quality, though it is a bit expensive.
HyperX provided a sample unit for this review. However, they didn’t have any influence on the review’s content and hadn’t seen it before it was published.
What’s in the box?
The HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 package included the headset itself, a microphone that can be removed, two USB cables (one USB-C to USB-C and one USB-A to USB-C), a durable audio cable, a user manual, and the RGB Base Station.
HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless: What I like

The HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless boasts a stylish look and feels comfortable to wear, thanks to its cushioned earcups and headband.
Unlike many headsets that use thin, fake leather on the earcups, the Alpha 2 Wireless uses a soft cloth. I find it very comfortable, but how it feels will vary from person to person – some might find it cozy, while others might find it a little warm.
I can control everything right from the headset itself. There are buttons to change the volume, mute the sound, switch between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections, and a multi-function button that handles most things I need.
I always found that the speakers provided excellent audio.
I was consistently impressed with the sound quality of this headset, whether I was gaming, chatting, or listening to music. The microphone also performed really well, delivering clear and natural-sounding voice communication without any strange noises or distortions.
Using the HyperX NGENUITY app (available on the HyperX website), you can customize your microphone with features like AI Noise Reduction, a Compressor, and a Limiter to achieve your ideal sound.
The headset’s spatial audio creates a truly immersive gaming experience, letting me pinpoint the direction of sounds. Plus, I can easily customize the audio with detailed settings in the NGENUITY app, adjusting spatial audio and EQ to my preferences.
I can quickly remove the microphone when I don’t need it, keeping it out of the way until I do – that’s really convenient. Like other HyperX headsets, this one has a red light on the mic and a voice confirmation saying “mic off” when muted, so I always know my voice isn’t being transmitted.

I found the included RGB Base Station intuitive and easy to set up.
I really appreciate being able to quickly adjust the volume or other settings on my Base Station during intense gaming moments, instead of having to mess with the headset itself. It lets me keep my hands close to the keyboard and mouse, so I can get right back to playing.
The RGB Base Station has built-in Wi-Fi, giving me the option to connect my headset either wirelessly with Bluetooth or through a Wi-Fi connection, depending on what works best for me.
The volume dial has really bright colors, and the NGENUITY app lets me change them, along with how see-through they are, and adjust different effects like how fast they happen. I can also change what the six buttons below the dial do using the app, but unfortunately, I couldn’t find a way to customize their colors or how visible they are.
HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless: What needs improvement

Although this headset is a bit expensive, it would have been great if it included noise cancellation. However, even without that feature, it still offers excellent sound quality and a comfortable over-ear fit.
The original Cloud Alpha 1 lasted up to 300 hours on a single charge, but the new Cloud Alpha 2 has a slightly shorter battery life of around 250 hours. Even so, 250 hours is still a great amount of playtime and will likely be enough for most gamers.
HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless: Should you buy it?

✅ You should buy this if …
- You want quick access to various programs and audio controls while gaming
- The included RGB Base Station makes it incredibly easy to adjust volume, mute, open programs, or change settings without having to fiddle with the headset or your computer.
- You’re looking for a headset with excellent speaker quality and mic quality
- The HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless provides a crisp experience so you can accurately take in-game sounds and clearly communicate with your squad.
❌ You should not buy this if …
- You don’t need a premium wireless headset
- HyperX offers a wide range of gaming headsets to fit every budget. If you don’t need an accessory of this caliber, you can always look at HyperX’s wired or more economical options.
- You’d prefer headphones that support ANC
- Given the price point of this headset, it is a little strange that it doesn’t offer active noise canceling. If that’s an important feature for you, then consider looking at other offerings.
I’ve been really impressed with the HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless gaming headset and its RGB Base Station after using them for the past couple of weeks. The sound quality is fantastic – it delivers both deep bass and clear highs when I listen to music, and the spatial audio makes gaming more immersive by letting me pinpoint exactly where sounds are coming from.
On top of that, my voice carries clearly to my teammates, ensuring that we communicate effectively.
The RGB Base Station has been a surprisingly helpful addition to my gaming setup. I really appreciate being able to quickly control things like my mic, volume, and settings with the device’s simple controls. What I like most is that it lets me keep my hands close to my keyboard and mouse, so I’m always ready to react in the heat of the game.
The HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless headset costs more than some others, but it’s a great choice if you prioritize excellent sound and want easy-to-reach controls for adjusting the audio while gaming. The included desk accessory makes those adjustments even simpler.
