Keith Urban Previously Shared Struggles in Nicole Kidman Marriage

Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have navigated rough waters in their marriage before.

Over a year prior to the couple’s split, the singer revealed how his previous struggles with addiction created difficulties at the beginning of their relationship.

In a speech at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in April 2024, Keith, 57, reminisced about his marriage to Nicole, 58. According to People, he said, “We got married in June 2006, and just four months later, my struggles with addiction-which I hadn’t addressed-essentially destroyed our marriage.”

Just four months after getting married, the Grammy-winning singer went to rehab for three months. He remembered being unsure if his wife, Nicole, would remain with him, especially as they share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.

I honestly didn’t know what the future held for us… and if you’re curious to see a true example of love, pay attention to this story,” he went on. “Nic overcame all the doubts and negativity – even her own inner critic – and she chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later.”

However, earlier this year, Keith seemed hesitant to talk about their relationship. While speaking with Australian radio show Hayley & Max in the Morning on Mix 102.3, he quickly changed the subject when the conversation turned to the Oscar winner’s 2024 romantic comedy A Family Affair, which featured her alongside Zac Efron.

During the interview, host Max Burford started by saying, “With your wife, Nicole Kidman, constantly appearing in so many successful movies and TV shows, I was wondering…” He then asked Keith, “What goes through your mind when you see Nicole acting in romantic scenes with younger actors like Zac Efron on television and radio?”

Within seconds, Keith disappeared from the virtual call.

A radio staff member informed Max and his cohost Hayley Peterson that “He’s no longer connected to Zoom.” They believed the person’s team had intentionally disconnected the call, likely to avoid a particular question.
