Microsoft recently released the 25H2 update for Windows 11. They’ve also announced a couple of potential problems users might encounter after updating, including one that could prevent you from watching DVDs or Blu-ray discs.
Microsoft says that Windows 11 users on versions 25H2 and 24H2 might encounter issues when watching videos with copy protection. These issues could include error messages, constant pausing, frozen screens, or a completely black screen. This mainly affects apps that use Enhanced Video Renderer with HDCP or DRM for audio.
There isn’t a way to fix this problem on your own right now. The company is working on a solution that will be included in a future Windows update, and they’ll share more details when they have them.
Microsoft has identified another problem with Windows updates. Updates installed using the Windows Update Standalone Installer (WUSA) can sometimes fail with an error message if you’re installing them from a network location that holds several update files at once, or by double-clicking an .msu file in that location.
You can easily avoid this problem by copying the MSU files to a folder on your computer before installing them. Microsoft has also provided a solution you can download here, but most home users probably won’t be affected anyway.
As more people start using the 25H2 update, Microsoft will probably add to the list of known issues. We’ll keep this article updated with any new problems that are discovered, so check back often!
