LeBron James Reveals If He’s Postponing Retirement for Son Bryce James

LeBron James will not call a timeout on his retirement plans for younger son’s sake.

Even though Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James is currently teammates with his son Bronny James, he stated he isn’t holding off on planning for the future to see if his younger son, 18-year-old Bryce James-who is presently playing college basketball at the University of Arizona-will eventually enter the NBA.

I’m not sure when he plans to return,” LeBron told reporters at a Lakers press conference on September 29. “He’s an adult now, making his own decisions. He’s currently in Tucson, and we’ll just have to see how things unfold this year or next-he’s on his own schedule.”

However, the 40-year-old player remains open to the possibility of playing on the same court as Bryce. He explained, “I have my own schedule, and I’m not sure if it will align with theirs, but we’ll see what happens.”

Although LeBron-who has three children, including daughter Zhuri, age 10, with his wife Savannah James-hasn’t announced a specific retirement date from the NBA, he has talked openly about his plans for when he stops playing basketball professionally.

I’m definitely open to exploring new roles, and if I receive scripts and have the chance to act-especially after I retire from basketball-I’d be interested,” the Space Jam: A New Legacy star shared with The Hollywood Reporter in June. “I’m happy to consider opportunities and see if they work out.

But LeBron noted that his career shift will “boil down to the creative writing and to the role.”

He continued, saying that if the part seems like a good fit and he believes he can perform it well, he’d be happy to consider it.

Currently, the athlete is focusing on the present. As Bronny mentioned before regarding his father’s views on retirement rumors, “He just tells me to not worry about it, to not even pay attention to it.”

He mentioned in July that they don’t often discuss the matter, explaining that LeBron had encouraged him to “lock into what you have going on right now.”

“And that’s how I’ll improve and stay focused,” Bronny explained. “I appreciate him telling me to ignore all the distractions.”

Many people consider him the best basketball player ever, so it wasn’t surprising when the former Chicago Bulls player’s sons, Jeffrey Jordan and Marcus Jordan, wanted to pursue basketball themselves. After playing in high school, Jeffrey attended college at both the University of Illinois and University of Central Florida, hoping to make a name for himself and move beyond being known as his father’s son.

“I realize I’m probably not among the best few players in my state,” Jeffrey explained to The Washington Post back in 2005, “but I’m determined to prove I deserve to compete at this level and that I’m more than just a recognizable name.”

While studying at UCF, Marcus also enjoyed playing basketball. He acknowledged his father’s influence in guiding him to pursue his own interests and forge his own way.

He explained to The Gainesville Sun in 2011 that he would offer advice and guidance whenever I needed it, “but mostly he emphasized the importance of staying focused and consistently working hard, as that effort would ultimately be rewarded.”

Bronny James (originally named LeBron James Jr., born on October 6, 2004) played basketball at Chatsworth Sierra Canyon High School in the San Fernando Valley. He then went on to attend the University of Southern California.

Although the NBA season frequently prevents LeBron from attending all of his son’s games, he always makes a significant effort to be there for Bronny. For example, he once rented a private plane on a day off just to watch Sierra Canyon play against his former high school, St. Vincent-St. Mary, in Akron, Ohio.

LeBron told reporters that watching his son play, especially against his former school, is “a pretty surreal, come-full-circle, unbelievable thing.”

In June 2024, Bronny James was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers, meaning he and his father, LeBron James, will become the first father-son pair to play in the NBA simultaneously. This is a historic moment for the league, as it’s never happened before. You can find more information about the NBA on their official website.

And what about LeBron’s younger son, Bryce James? He began his college basketball career at the University of Arizona in 2025.

I’m so excited about the Sierra Canyon team! And adding to the incredible lineup is Zaire Wade, who you might know as the eldest son of the legendary Miami Heat player. It’s amazing to see such talent coming together!

“You have to accept it,” Zaire, who joined the team in December 2019 after transferring from Florida, explained to Yahoo! Sports regarding the unusual focus on his team. “We’re being filmed everywhere we go. I’ve dealt with a lot of attention throughout my life, but this is something else. This is a whole new experience.”

However, Zaire was dissatisfied with how little playing time he received and, in April 2020, announced on Instagram that he would be transferring to Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, Fla.

Zaire was selected 10th overall in the 2021 NBA G League draft by the Salt Lake City Stars. He later played for the Cape Town Tigers in the Basketball Africa League, and in April 2024, he signed with a team in the ASEAN Basketball League.

The former football player might soon be surpassed by his daughter. That’s because Cha’iel Johnson is an accomplished track and field athlete. She competed in the 2017 AAU Junior Olympics at just 12 years old, and she won the girls’ 800-meter race.

She competed for St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida, and then went on to join the athletics team at the University of Kentucky.

The third-oldest child of the NBA Hall of Famer, standing 6-foot-10, played college basketball at UCLA. However, their career was interrupted by a heart condition that needed surgical intervention.

He sat out the 2018-19 season after playing at a California university, then transferred to Louisiana State. At LSU, there’s a 900-pound bronze statue of Shaq outside the basketball practice facility, recognizing him as a celebrated former student.

Following graduation from Louisiana State University (LSU), the basketball player began his professional career in 2022 with the NBA G League Ignite, a team designed to develop young talent for the NBA.

Shaq’s daughter, who is 6-foot-2 (shown here with her brother Shareef O’Neal), revealed in 2020 that she would be attending LSU. She’ll be joining her brother to play college basketball for the university.

Making the transition from high school to college is a really tough choice for someone my age,” she explained. “While I’m not entirely sure what the future holds, I’m definitely up for the challenge. I honestly never thought I’d say this, but I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve committed to being a student athlete at LSU, alongside my brother Shareef O’Neal. I am Sooooo grateful to spend the next 4 years as a Tiger.

She later joined the basketball team at Texas Southern University, playing for them during the 2021-2022 season.

The oldest daughter of a two-time NBA All-Star played basketball with Izela Arenas, who is the daughter of Gilbert Arenas, while she was a student at Sierra Canyon.

I played at Michigan State for coach Tom Izzo,” Randolph shared with the Los Angeles Times in December 2020. “He was tough, really demanding. He was the type of coach you could push the male players with. But the female players, they knew how to get their way. They’d look at you and say, ‘Dad, I’m giving it my all,’ and you just had a soft spot for them.”

MacKenly claimed she had won against her father in one-on-one matchups three times, jokingly adding, “He doesn’t play any defense.”

The 6-foot-3 son of an NFL Hall of Famer joined Florida Atlantic University in 2019 as a preferred walk-on player. Terique had primarily played basketball throughout his childhood, but he began focusing on football during his teenage years. He started his college football journey at Contra Costa Community College before transferring to another school.

After his college football career, Terique signed with the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad.

The player, a graduate of Sierra Canyon, was a four-year starter and helped his team win two state championships. He then played college basketball at Vanderbilt University, and in 2022, he signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. This is a significant achievement for the young athlete, and many expect great things from him.

Following a short time playing for the South Bay Lakers, the NBA G-League affiliate, Scotty Jr. agreed to a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2024.

The once-famous Chicago Bulls player and five-time NBA winner is many things-and being a father is definitely one of them.

The son of Dennis Rodman, Dennis Rodman Jr.-also known as DJ-was a high school athlete at Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach, California, playing both basketball and football. After graduating, he initially played forward at Washington State University, but later moved to the University of Southern California in 2023.

“He’s a player who doesn’t get enough recognition in Southern California,” explained his high school coach, Ryan Schachter, to the Orange County Register following a game in 2017.

After his college career, DJ joined Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League in 2024.

While Dennis’ son followed in his footsteps by playing basketball, his daughter Trinity Rodman chose a different sport: soccer. Her first college season with the Washington State Cougars was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, but she quickly turned professional, joining the Washington Spirit in 2021 and the United States women’s national soccer team in 2022.

In 2024, Trinity won Olympic gold as part of Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

It’s no surprise that the best golfer of all time has a son who’s also incredibly talented. Charlie Woods first appeared on television playing golf at age 11, alongside his father, at the 2020 PNC Championship.

When questioned about practicing his swing before the father-son event, the 15-time major champion responded, “I didn’t practice at all. I’m not focused on how I play. My priority is making sure Charlie has a great time and enjoys the experience.”
