Finding the next Wolverine after Hugh Jackman has been a big challenge, but a surprising actor hasn’t even been mentioned as a possibility for the upcoming *X-Men* reboot within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jackman first played the iconic clawed mutant in the original *X-Men* film in 2000, launching the *X-Men* franchise for 20th Century Fox. He continued in the role until 2017’s *Logan*, which gave Wolverine a poignant farewell, though he recently returned for *Deadpool & Wolverine*, officially bringing the character into the MCU. Now, a new actor will soon take on the mantle.
The first trailer for Insomniac Games’ *Marvel’s Wolverine* debuted in September, introducing a fresh take on the iconic character. Actor Liam McIntyre provides both the performance capture and voice work for this new Wolverine. The trailer shows him battling classic foes like Omega Red and Mystique, many of whom have robotic augmentations. Many viewers believe McIntyre would be an excellent choice to play Wolverine in a live-action movie, and his background in superhero roles adds to the excitement.
Liam McIntyre is joining the Marvel universe with *Marvel’s Wolverine*, but he’s no stranger to superhero roles. He previously worked extensively with DC, providing his voice for characters like Captain Boomerang in *Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay* (2018), Aquaman in *Justice League Dark: Apokalips War* (2020), and Johnny Quick in *Justice Society: World War II* (2021) and *Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths* (2024). He also appeared on screen as Weather Wizard in five episodes of The CW’s *The Flash*, which is part of the larger Arrowverse.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m always excited about new castings, and the search for a new Wolverine is a big deal! Hugh Jackman *is* Wolverine to so many of us, so filling those shoes is incredibly tough. But I think Liam McIntyre could really deliver. He’s already proven he can handle superhero roles, and he definitely has the look and the acting chops for Logan. What’s really interesting is that he’s still building his career, which gives Marvel a fantastic opportunity to shape him into the definitive Wolverine for this new *X-Men* reboot – the one Jake Schreier is directing. I think it’s a brilliant move; he’s got the potential to become a massive star with this role.
Liam McIntyre is known for roles in shows like *Them*, *Star Wars Resistance*, and *Spartacus*, but he’s particularly famous for performing motion capture for the character JD Fenix in the *Gears of War 4* and *Gears 5* video games. His work in those games, and his upcoming role in *Marvel’s Wolverine*, demonstrate his ability to portray both the fierce and vulnerable sides of a character like Wolverine. Because of this, he would be an excellent choice to take over the role from Hugh Jackman in the upcoming *X-Men* reboot within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
