All of Batman’s Vehicles, Ranked

In a metropolis as vast as Gotham, the swiftness of Batman’s transportation is crucial if he hopes to arrive promptly and save the day. Fortunately, his genius intellect and billionaire status provide him with an abundance of resources, enabling him to stockpile advanced vehicles in the Batcave. For more than eight decades, Batman has been inventing and improving various vehicles to aid in his fight against crime. Some may seem far-fetched, but they all demonstrate how Batman strives to be prepared for any situation. From land to water to outer space, Batman’s vehicles ensure he is always ready to pursue villainy wherever it lurks.

The following list compares Batman’s various transportation modes based on their power, creativity, and practicality.

This ranking takes a look at the vehicles used by Batman, evaluating them according to their power, inventiveness, and usefulness.

10) Bat-Train

It’s hard to take the concept of the Bat-Train seriously; it’s a high-speed train powered by rockets that Batman uses on rail tracks to combat crime. However, the practicality of this vehicle seems questionable. For one, building tracks from his hideout to nearby railway lines could potentially expose his secret lair. Additionally, most contemporary villains don’t operate near train stations, so Batman would need to disembark the Bat-Train, travel on foot to where the bad guys are. Given these limitations, the Bat-Train appears to have limited uses.

9) Whirly-Bat

In my opinion, even if the name “Whirly-Bat” doesn’t strike you as silly, the image of Batman navigating an airborne scooter with a helicopter rotor is nothing short of absurd. Designed for swift aerial chases, this contraption can deploy smoke bombs and grappling hooks to nab crooks. However, its exposed design leaves the rider vulnerable to attacks, as they are out in the open and unprotected from gunfire. One of the funniest moments featuring the Whirly-Bat comes when the villain Hush commandeered it, but his bandages became entangled in the rotor, leading to a hilarious crash.

8) Batgyro

Introduced in 1939, a full year before the Batplane, the Batgyro was the initial flight vehicle employed by Batman. This compact, single-occupant aircraft is a mix of helicopter and glider capabilities, enabling long-distance travel, and boasts an autopilot system that lets Batman surprise crooks from above. It also generates thick smoke, simulating a dense fog for concealment purposes. Yet, with the arrival of the Batplane the following year, the Batgyro rapidly lost relevance due to its smaller size, slower speed, and less sophisticated technology compared to the newer model. Sometimes, being first doesn’t guarantee longevity.

7) Bat-Sub

In a universe where Atlantis and sea beasts aren’t just myths but vibrant realities, it’s only logical that the Dark Knight would engineer a Bat-Submarine. This colossal underwater vessel stands robust against the crushing forces of the deep abyss. On occasions when Gotham’s villains have sought refuge on vessels within its harbor, the Bat-Sub has served as an effective tool for launching unexpected assaults. Equipped with a grappling hook, net-launcher, and batarang gun among other gadgets, this marvel of technology is a testament to Batman’s ingenuity. However, given that Aquaman typically handles the crime wave beneath the waves, opportunities for Batman to utilize his aquatic steed are few and far between.

6) Batcopter

In a seemingly unfavorable choice for stealth-focused operations, a noisy helicopter might appear as a less than ideal vehicle for Batman given his main tool in combating crime is covertness. Yet, the Caped Crusader has ingeniously developed a “silent mode” that makes its noise imperceptible. Primarily utilized for rescue operations, surveillance, and pursuing villains at high speeds, the Batcopter also features an incapacitating gas dispenser to apprehend criminals. A memorable instance of the Batcopter’s deployment can be seen in the Adam West Batman TV series, where it served as transportation to the lairs of evil for both Batman and Robin.

5) Bat-Rocket

To aid in countering extraterrestrial dangers, Batman constructed a vessel, the Bat-Rocket, capable of battling aliens on their home ground – outer space. This colossal spaceship matches the speed and power of heroes such as Green Lantern and Superman. As its name suggests, the Bat-Rocket is propelled by high-performance engines, making it his fastest vehicle. Remarkably, it’s capable of interplanetary travel at speeds exceeding tens of thousands kilometers per hour. Unlike most of his other vehicles, the Bat-Rocket is primarily designed for space exploration rather than combat.

4) Batboat

In the heart of the Atlantic Coast, Gotham City’s bustling harbor has served as a breeding ground for a multitude of criminal activities, providing ample occasions for me, the Dark Knight, to unleash my versatile aquatic companion – the Batboat. Over the years, this vessel has been refined and redesigned, from sleek speedboats to stealthy submersibles. One of its most impressive attributes is its ability to morph into a submarine, allowing me to wage war both above and below the waterline. Armed with torpedoes, harpoon guns, grappling hooks, and an array of other weapons, the Batboat ensures that the nefarious can find no sanctuary – not even in the depths of the sea.

3) Batcycle

As a dedicated movie reviewer, I must say that when it comes to heart-pounding, breakneck pursuits through the labyrinthine streets of Gotham, the Batcycle is the ultimate ride for the Dark Knight. This all-terrain motorbike offers more nimbleness than the Batmobile, making it an ideal companion in the Caped Crusader’s tireless fight against crime.

Equipped with a cutting-edge bat computer and a bulletproof windshield, the Batcycle is a technological marvel. And let’s not forget the amusing addition of some earlier models featuring a sidecar for Robin to hitch a ride!

It’s worth noting that our caped hero isn’t the only one to take to the roads on a bat-themed motorbike, as both Batwoman and Batgirl have also had their own versions of this formidable vehicle.

2) Batplane

Speaking as a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’d say it’s like having a bird without its wings: The Batplane is the essential tool that allows Batman to soar over Gotham City, acting as a vigilant protector of justice in the night sky. Reaching speeds of 4,400 mph, this high-performance aircraft was designed for speed and aerial combat. Equipped with heavy weaponry such as machine guns and missile launchers, it’s like a modern fighter jet. Its grappling cable can lift people and cars off the ground, while its crime lab allows Batman to continue his detective work even at great heights.

1) Batmobile

Among all fictional vehicles, none is more renowned than the Batmobile. Debuting in 1940, this iconic car has evolved through many different designs. Some versions are optimized for high-speed pursuits on highways, while others are armored like tanks, capable of confronting entire armies singlehandedly. Typically equipped with a jet engine, bulletproof armor, autopilot, an onboard computer, missiles, and a security system that delivers shocks to unwelcome intruders, the Batmobile is an essential component of every Batman.
