It Only Took 5 Months For Sentry To Lose His Spot as the MCU’s Strongest Character (& He May Never Get It Back)

In the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was pretty clear who the strongest heroes were. Characters like Thor and the Hulk stood out in Phases One and Two because of their incredible physical strength and ability to defeat powerful enemies. The movies even showed them fighting each other, fueling the debate about who was the most powerful Avenger. But things became more complicated later on. The MCU started introducing heroes with different kinds of powers – not just brute strength – and stopped having them directly compete against each other, making it harder to determine who’s the strongest.

Marvel Studios didn’t introduce its most powerful character until 2025 with the film *Thunderbolts*. Though the movie centered on a team of gun-for-hire mercenaries, it showcased Sentry, a virtually invulnerable hero with a devastating dark side. Unfortunately, Sentry’s time in the spotlight was short-lived; the MCU quickly moved on to a new powerful character just months later.

The MCU Has Already Handed Sentry’s Crown to a Familiar Face

The fact that Sentry is currently without powers suggests Marvel isn’t planning for him to be the most powerful hero for long. At the end of *Thunderbolts*, he explains that suppressing his Sentry persona is the only way to contain the dangerous Void within him. It’s hard to imagine the franchise’s strongest character being unable to use his abilities, so Marvel is exploring other options. Franklin Richards, appearing in *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, is a strong contender, as even as a baby, he can alter reality. However, he still needs time to fully develop his powers. Luckily, another upcoming Marvel project is challenging its characters and testing their limits to see who will rise to the occasion.

As a fan, I’m totally hooked on *Marvel Zombies*! The story throws our heroes into this insane situation where they have to save everyone from a zombie outbreak, but these aren’t just any zombies – they’re superheroes! And the mastermind behind it all is the Scarlet Witch, who wants to remake the world to her liking. The problem is, she needs a massive power boost to pull it off. Luckily, there’s still hope in the form of the Infinity Hulk! After Bruce Banner got his hands on all the Infinity Stones, he became unbelievably powerful, but instead of just destroying things, he’s dedicated to protecting Earth. It takes Wanda a long time to build up an army strong enough to even challenge him, and even though she seemingly defeats him, I have a feeling the Infinity Hulk isn’t down for good!

Infinity Hulk Might Have a Future in the MCU

During his long battle in *Marvel Zombies*, the Hulk manages to hold his own for a while, but he’s ultimately at a disadvantage. Scarlet Witch eventually gets the opportunity to tap into his power after he finally defeats Thor. This causes a shift in reality, and Kamala Khan finds herself in a world that’s similar to the one she knew, though with some key differences. For example, she’s already friends with Riri Williams and Kate Bishop, a connection that didn’t form until after the zombie outbreak. Like the reality she created in Westview, Scarlet Witch’s new world isn’t perfect, and Kamala is beginning to realize that something is off.

The show deliberately leaves Kamala’s escape from prison unfinished, which is a smart move because it leaves the door open for future storylines. It suggests that Scarlet Witch might not be able to permanently defeat the Infinity Hulk – she can only contain him as long as she maintains physical contact. If they ever become separated, the Hulk would be free to pursue his anger and fight anyone who challenges him. Sadly, it seems unlikely that Sentry will join the fight, as he’s currently retired from superhero work and doesn’t want to be the most powerful being, unlike the Hulk.

Marvel Zombies is streaming on Disney+.
