Fantastic Four Star Shares Touching Tribute to Julian McMahon

After the demise of actor Julian McMahon, a cast member from the Fantastic Four has paid tribute to the deceased. On the 4th of July, McMahon’s wife, Kelly, disclosed that he had succumbed to a private struggle with cancer. The Australian actor, who gained fame for his roles in Nip/Tuck, Charmed, and the early 2000s Fantastic Four films, was just 56 years old when he passed away. Now, an actor who shared screen time with him as part of Marvel’s original family has come forward with their thoughts.

Ioan Gruffudd, who acted alongside the star in the Fantastic Four films, expressed his sorrow on Instagram about the actor, sharing a photo of McMahon. In his post, he remembered their time together as sworn enemies in the Marvel movies, stating that despite this, they always shared lighthearted moments and joyful encounters. He described McMahon as “Dr. Doom” to his “Dr. Richards,” expressing that it was an honor to play those roles. His message concluded with sympathy for McMahon’s wife and family, wishing him peace.

In the Instagram post visible just above, Gruffudd posted a fun snapshot of them together, seemingly at the premiere of Fantastic Four. Additionally, he uploaded a picture of McMahon portraying Doom in the movies.

In the original Fox’s “Fantastic Four” film series, Ioan Gruffudd portrayed Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic. He shared the screen with Jessica Alba as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm/The Thick. In the role of their adversary, Victor von Doom, Gruffudd appeared in two films: “Fantastic Four” from 2005 and “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” in 2007. Regrettably, due to disappointing box office returns and unfavorable feedback from both fans and critics, Fox chose not to produce another “Fantastic Four” movie.

McMahon didn’t end his Marvel roles with Doom; instead, when Marvel Television partnered with Hulu to adapt the beloved The Runaways comics for television, McMahon was given the part of Jonah. The show ran for two seasons on the streaming platform before it was eventually cancelled. Following his work on The Runaways, McMahon joined one of CBS’ top TV shows, FBI. Initially appearing as a guest star in the series, he later appeared in FBI: International, and ultimately became a regular cast member in FBI: Most Wanted. However, McMahon unexpectedly left the show and his role as FBI SSA Jess LaCroix in March 2022.

In his latest cinematic appearance, McMahon portrayed Ray in the movie “The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat”. This film revolves around three close friends called The Supremes, exploring themes of friendship, sorrow, and family. More recently on television, McMahon played Stephen Roos in Netflix’s “The Residence”, a series now available for streaming on the platform, marking what appears to be his final role.

According to the actor’s spouse, McMahon passed away peacefully on July 2nd, following a fight against cancer. During their time of mourning, she requested privacy but also expressed that those who found pleasure in his performances should continue finding it in life. She pointed out that the actor cherished his work and his fans, with his ultimate wish being to bring joy into as many lives as he could.
