Lucasfilm’s new Disney+ shows won’t continue the main Skywalker story or any other established part of the official Star Wars timeline. For a while, it was hard to tell what was officially part of the Star Wars story and what wasn’t. But after Disney bought Star Wars, everything was clearly labeled as either ‘canon’ (official) or ‘Legends’ (not official), making it easier for fans to keep track.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been keeping up with everything Disney+ has been releasing – from the gritty Andor to the fun of LEGO Star Wars. But I’m especially excited about Star Wars: Visions! The third season is officially hitting the streaming service on October 29, 2025. What’s really cool is that it’s not just introducing brand new stories, but also building on characters and plotlines we started to see in the first two seasons of this fantastic anime series. It’s a great time to be a Star Wars fan!
The biggest difference with *Star Wars: Visions* Season 3 is that it won’t be considered official Star Wars story material. This means the events of the season won’t affect any of the existing live-action shows or animated series like *The Clone Wars*, *Rebels*, or *Tales of the Jedi*.
This isn’t the first time a major Star Wars project has existed outside the official storyline. Seasons 1 and 2 of *Star Wars: Visions* weren’t considered canon either, and Season 3 follows suit. Despite this, the new season still has important storylines. Season 3 will continue three popular episodes from Season 1: “The Duel,” “The Village Bride,” and “The Ninth Jedi,” expanding on the stories originally told.
Like we discussed, several recent Star Wars projects aren’t officially part of the main storyline, or ‘canon.’ A prime example is the newest release, *LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past*. Because the LEGO Star Wars stories include characters, plots, and details that don’t fit with the core Star Wars universe, none of these releases are considered canon.
Besides the newer shows, there are other Star Wars projects like the 2D animated series *Clone Wars*, *Ewoks*, and *Droids*. You can still watch them all on Disney+, but they aren’t officially part of the main Star Wars storyline.
Star Wars will probably keep making shows for Disney+ that aren’t part of the official storyline. Projects like *Visions* and the LEGO Star Wars series have been successful for both Lucasfilm and Disney, suggesting they’ll continue to produce these non-canon titles.
Non-canon shows often offer fans a more thrilling experience. They have the freedom to introduce characters, plotlines, and interactions that wouldn’t be possible within the official storyline. A great example is the show *Rebuild the Galaxy*, which featured Darth Revan on screen – a character whose appearances are limited in the main story.
Star Wars: Visions Season 3 will be premiering on Disney+ on October 29, 2025.
Will Visions Return for Season 4?
While Disney and Lucasfilm haven’t officially confirmed a fourth season of *Star Wars: Visions*, the show’s continued success – with three seasons already released – suggests they are very happy with it.
As a huge fan of *Visions*, I was so excited to hear that they’re making a spin-off series called *Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi*! It’s set to come out in 2026, which really shows Lucasfilm and Disney are happy with how *Visions* has been doing on Disney+ and want to explore that world even further.
I really hope we get another *Visions*! What I love about it is that because it’s not strictly part of the main story, the animators have total freedom to experiment and get creative with each episode, and so many fans really appreciate that.
