How Diane Keaton Achieved Lifelong Dream 10 Months Before Her Death

Diane Keaton made one of her wishes come true months before her tragic passing.

Just months before her death at 79, the Academy Award-winning actress achieved a lifelong ambition: releasing her first solo Christmas song, titled “First Christmas.”

Diane announced on Instagram in November 2024 that her first holiday single, ‘First Christmas,’ would be released on Friday, November 29th. She shared the cover art, which shows her wearing a black turtleneck and polka-dot pants, and wrote, ‘I can’t believe it’s finally here!’

She added, “SO EXCITED TO SHARE THIS SONG WITH YOU ALL.”

As many of you know, I’ve been following Diane’s journey for a while now, and she’s always been incredibly passionate about music. It probably won’t surprise you to learn she’s finally making moves in that direction! She and Ashe actually worked together before, on Ashe’s song “Love Is Letting Go” back in 2022, and Diane has always been very open about wanting to explore her musical side.

She once dreamed of becoming a nightclub singer, a fantasy she held onto even after turning twenty. She did perform a few times, but admitted she wasn’t a strong singer, according to a 2014 interview with Richard Crouse.

Although she acknowledged her voice wasn’t powerful and had its limits, she believed her love for the work made a career in the field worthwhile.

She explained that she’s passionate about music. She especially enjoys singing emotional songs and finds it really enjoyable.

Diane passed away in California on Oct. 11, a family spokesperson confirmed to People.

Beyond her growing success in music, she was also a highly respected actress known for her roles in classic films like *Annie Hall*, *The First Wives Club*, *Something’s Gotta Give*, and *The Godfather*.

After her death, many former coworkers and fans honored her lasting impact on the world of entertainment.

Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who acted alongside Diane in the 1991 film *Father of the Bride*, shared on Instagram on October 11th that working with Diane is a cherished memory. She described Diane as a uniquely wonderful person, expressing gratitude for her kindness, generosity, talent, and especially her infectious laughter.
