Even though *Mortal Kombat 2* isn’t out in theaters for several months, plans for a third movie are already underway. Writer Jeremy Slater revealed this at New York Comic Con, according to IGN.
New Line and Warner Bros. are thrilled with how the movie turned out. They believe there’s a large and eager audience, so they’ve asked me to begin working on a sequel.
Currently, details about the third *Mortal Kombat* movie are still a mystery, including how it will follow up the second film. *Mortal Kombat 2* is scheduled to release on May 16, 2026, starring Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. The sequel will also introduce Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn – all newcomers to the film series.
NetherRealm Studios is currently focusing on a new project after wrapping up support for *Mortal Kombat 1*, which has sold over 6.2 million copies. Reports suggest they’re developing *Injustice 3*, set in the DC Universe. We’ll share more details as they become available.
