Coronation Street is gearing up for a particularly eventful winter, promises executive producer Kate Brooks.
The new Driscoll family isn’t just the heart of the pub, they’re also causing all the excitement and trouble.
Viewers of Swarla may be disappointed to learn that Becky (Amy Cudden) will keep attempting to drive a wedge between Lisa (Vicky Myers) and Carla (Alison King), but the question remains: will her efforts be successful?
A difficult but important storyline will soon unfold on the show, focusing on domestic abuse between Todd and Theo. As Theo’s personality changes, the abuse begins, with heartbreaking results.
That’s just a teaser – read on for a full winter preview for Coronation Street.
1. Driscoll family drama

Get ready for big changes at the Rovers Return pub on Coronation Street! The Driscoll family is arriving, and they’re already causing a stir. Ben, a bit of a troublemaker, and his wife Eva are set to shake things up as the new owners. Joining them is Ben’s outspoken and often critical mother-in-law, Maggie. This blended family promises to bring a fresh dynamic to the street and will be central to many dramatic storylines in the coming months, all the way through Christmas.
As a fan, I just love how fiercely the Driscolls love and protect each other! They definitely have their problems, like any family, but their loyalty is so clear. And honestly, I think we’re going to keep falling for them as the show goes on – they’re just such a joy to watch. They’ve really jumped right in, and it sounds like there are tons of exciting stories coming up for them, which is amazing!
Brooks described Christmas Day as a heartwarming and lively family event, particularly centered around the Driscoll family. It’s a traditional pub Christmas, full of community spirit, with plenty of activity and surprising reveals. The episode promises to be both feel-good and dramatic.
Consider us ready!
2. Theo’s domestic abuse of Todd

In the coming weeks, Coronation Street will begin a storyline focusing on domestic abuse, as the character Theo’s manipulative and controlling behaviour is revealed. The show has been hinting at this development for weeks, and producers have been working closely with the charity Galop to accurately portray a same-sex abusive relationship and raise awareness about this often-overlooked issue.
According to Brooks, the upcoming plot will center around Todd feeling like he owes Theo, as Theo has made significant sacrifices for him. However, Theo’s manipulative and darker side will then emerge. Theo is skilled at making Todd question his own reality, and as the story unfolds, viewers will see Todd become increasingly vulnerable as he grapples with a loving, yet violent and controlling, relationship.
I’m so excited about something really groundbreaking coming up on the show! The team has filmed a special episode dealing with this storyline, and it’s going to be unlike anything soap fans have ever seen – a total first for the genre. I’ve already had a sneak peek, and let me tell you, it’s incredibly powerful and focuses on the characters’ relationship in a really raw and authentic way. Some of the scenes are tough to watch, but so important, and honestly, I was completely stunned by it. It’s going to air in the next few months, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.
3. Swarla explosions

As a long-time viewer, I was completely shocked when Becky unexpectedly reappeared! Everyone thought she was gone, but she’s back and determined to win back Lisa and build a relationship with her daughter. But apparently, things are about to get *really* intense. The producer, Iain MacLeod, has made it clear that Becky isn’t just a returning character – she’s a full-on villain! She’s got a clear plan: she wants her family back, and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to break up Lisa and Carla’s life together.
The story is unfolding, and we’ll gradually learn more about Becky – her personality and what she’s capable of. So far, we’ve only seen a small part of who she is, but she has many hidden depths, especially when it comes to triggering Lisa by reminding her of their past. Becky is a force to be reckoned with, and the plot will continue to twist and turn. As Becky behaves more like herself, Carla will become increasingly agitated, leading to dramatic confrontations.
Brooks hinted that viewers will learn Becky’s secrets before the residents of Weatherfield do, so stay tuned!
4. Debbie Webster’s dementia storyline progresses

I’m really touched that Coronation Street is continuing to explore Debbie Webster’s (Sue Devaney) dementia storyline. It’s so important to me that they don’t just focus on the struggles, but also show that Debbie is still Debbie – a valued member of the community who still finds happiness and joy in her life. I’m glad they’re committed to showing the full picture of what living with dementia is like.
According to Brooks, she’s truly embracing life and making the most of every moment. She’s excitedly planning a beautiful and happy wedding with Ronnie later this year. We’ll also see the first performance of the dementia choir she’s worked so hard on. More than anything, she hopes her family can reconnect and be together again.
This story is just beginning to unfold. Debbie is so much more than her dementia, and we’re focusing on celebrating who she is as a person, beyond the illness. We’re simply enjoying her being herself!
5. Can Carl keep his secrets?

As Christmas approaches on Coronation Street, viewers can expect more drama surrounding Carl and his hidden past. Tyrone is unaware that Carl was responsible for his recent accident and the injuries he sustained. Meanwhile, Carl’s affair with Abi has completely fractured the family, and many believe it’s time for him to face the consequences of his actions!
6. Corriedale

Everyone is eagerly watching for hints about the upcoming special episodes that will combine the storylines of Coronation Street and Emmerdale, playfully called ‘Corriedale.’ Although the show’s creator, Brooks, isn’t revealing any plot details just yet, she did share a promising update to build excitement.
Brooks shared that filming is going incredibly well, praising both the director and the scripts. The actors are enjoying the project, finding it a fresh and unique experience, and the atmosphere on set is very positive and energetic.
I’m really curious about what my mum will think of this episode. Knowing how much she loves soap operas, the thought of her watching this – with characters from two of her favourite shows all together in one big event – is just fantastic. She’ll be absolutely thrilled!
Let me tell you, seeing this film, it’s clear everyone involved poured their heart and soul into it. The actors delivered fantastic performances, of course, but what really struck me was the sheer effort behind the scenes. It was a massive undertaking, a real logistical puzzle, and the dedication of the entire team is truly evident. You can feel the passion radiating from the screen – it’s a testament to how much everyone cared about bringing this story to life.
There’s no word currently on when Corriedale will air.
