Capcom announced last month that viewers will have to pay to watch the professional Street Fighter 6 finals next year, using a pay-per-view system.
Predictably, this decision caused a strong negative reaction. Many fans, players, and well-known figures in the gaming community believe Capcom is harming both its own reputation and the fighting game genre as a whole.
Despite the initial backlash, Capcom isn’t giving up on the event just yet. They’ve recently announced they’re reconsidering the pricing, but haven’t mentioned canceling the event itself.
The company announced they’ve been listening to fan feedback and are looking into potentially changing the price for watching live events. This information comes from a recent official post, as reported by VGC.
Just to quickly summarize, online pay-per-view events can cost up to 6,000 yen, which is about $40 or £30.
