During a series of project terminations, Techland, the developer behind Dying Light, has sadly added another to the list. However, the studio hasn’t disclosed which projects are affected (and fortunately, there were no layoffs). According to Insider-Gaming, their previously announced fantasy action RPG, which was unveiled in May 2022, has been unfortunately cancelled.
Under the code name “Project Cornerstone,” there was a game conceptually similar to Star Wars’ Force, with the ability to move objects and even pause time. However, it seems this game took heavy inspiration from the Force. The project faced issues due to questionable leadership and transitioning to Unreal Engine, but the definitive cause for its cancellation remains unclear.
Looking at the positive aspect, it appears the developer is creating a fresh installment of the popular “Call of Juarez” series using the Unreal Engine. While there’s no word yet on when this project might be officially unveiled, it seems they’ve been working on it for some time now.
For now, Techland is set to release “Dying Light: The Beast” on August 22nd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Initially planned as a DLC for “Dying Light 2”, it has since transformed into a standalone game and a sequel to the original. The character Kyle Crane will reprise his role as the protagonist in this new installment. Later in the year, it will also be available on Xbox One and PS4.
Visit this location for additional information about its expansive open world, a claim made by franchise director Tymon Smektala that it’s one of the “most packed” in existence.
