Can the ‘Task’ Finale Stick the Landing After Episode 6’s Shocking Revelations?

Spoiler Warning: Episodes 1-6 of Task

HBO Max’s crime miniseries, *Task*, will conclude next Sunday with its seventh and final episode. The series has been building towards a climax, which largely unfolded in Episode 6. Surprisingly, the main storyline was resolved before the finale, and the episode featured a shocking turn of events with the deaths of two major characters, leaving viewers stunned.

Even though the main storyline seems finished, the show isn’t over yet. The villains haven’t been caught, new threats have emerged, and true justice is still to come. Viewers already experienced that mixed feeling of finishing a beloved series last Sunday, but that doesn’t mean *Task* is truly done. As the finale approaches, audiences will join the remaining characters in a powerful story of revenge. Importantly, the writer and creator, Brad Ingelsby, hasn’t held back any crucial details – everything that needs to be resolved will be.

Okay, so Episode 7 looks like it’s going to be all about justice being served – and it’s going to be *intense*. The people in power aren’t holding back at all. Honestly, after the crazy cliffhanger in Episode 6, *Task* really needs to nail this one. It feels like this episode is its last chance to really deliver on all the drama it’s been building and make sure the bad guys get what they deserve. I’m hoping they really let loose and give us some satisfying resolutions!

What Is ‘Task’ About?

HBO

In the film *Task*, FBI agent Tom Brandis heads a team investigating a string of violent robberies targeting homes connected to local drug gangs. While dealing with a personal tragedy, Brandis leads Lizzie Stover, Aleah Clinton, and Anthony Grasso as they investigate the most recent crime: a horrific scene with multiple fatalities and a missing child.

The story also focuses on Robbie Prendergrast, the leader of a group of thieves who disguise themselves as garbage collectors to secretly watch the houses involved in drug activity run by The Dark Hearts. During one heist, a gang member shows up unexpectedly, forcing Robbie to steal the money and also take the drug dealers’ young son hostage.

As the task force investigates the case of the missing boy, they stumble upon a local drug operation thrown into chaos when Robbie stole a bag of fentanyl. Robbie and his accomplice, Cliff, attempt to sell the drugs and flee with their families, but they’re pursued by both the determined FBI and the ruthless leaders of The Dark Hearts, who will stop at nothing to regain control.

‘Task’ Episode 6 Recap: Betrayal, Death, Revenge

HBO

In the sixth episode of *Task*, Robbie is in a dominant position. He’s forgiven Tom Brandis and allowed him to leave, as he focuses on delivering a final strike against Perry and Jayson’s group, The Dark Hearts. He only asks that his niece, Maeve – who cares for his children – be kept safe. Despite this, Tom Brandis pursues Robbie with the help of Stover, Clinton, and Grasso. Viewers have already learned that Grasso is secretly working for The Dark Hearts, marking the second time actor Fabien Frankel (who also played a morally ambiguous character in *House of the Dragon*) has portrayed someone with hidden allegiances.

As soon as Jayson opens fire, everything descends into confusion. Tom and Robbie try to work together to stop Jayson and Perry, but a fierce fight breaks out between Jayson and Robbie before Tom can intervene in the woods. Jayson fatally stabs Robbie, then flees, leaving Tom to care for the wounded man. Sadly, Robbie dies in Tom’s arms before they can get to the hospital.

A tense standoff is happening between the task force and the Dark Hearts gang. During the chaos, Grasso accidentally shoots near Lizzie, causing her to lose her hearing. Distrustful of his guidance, she flees. To make matters worse, Grasso intentionally lets Perry and Jayson escape, fulfilling a prior deal. Reaching a bridge, Lizzie tries to retrieve something from her car, but can’t hear an approaching truck. Turning around, she realizes Perry and Jayson are driving the vehicle that’s about to hit her, resulting in her death. She dies in the arms of a fellow agent – one who had secretly betrayed his team and with whom she had formed a connection.

The episode ends with Tom learning his team is under investigation, as Internal Affairs suspects Grasso of being a snitch. Though the team leader confronts the younger agent, he fails to get a confession, but threatens to return. Determined to find out who’s behind the trouble, Tom contacts Clinton, and together they decide to expose their problematic partner.

Can the ‘Task’ Finale Live Up to the Hype?

HBO

The final episode of *Task* presented a challenge because many shows save their biggest moments for last. Usually, finales include dramatic events like character deaths, important revelations, and climactic confrontations. However, *Task* delivered all of that in Episode 6, leaving viewers feeling unsatisfied and with the sense that while things might eventually work out, it would be too late to truly matter.

While Lizzie Stover and Robbie Prendergrast didn’t have equal roles in the overall story, actors Alison Oliver and Tom Pelphrey both brought them to life in a captivating way. Their characters will be missed in the final episode, and at least one of them will continue to impact the story until the very end. It seems Robbie’s storyline is concluding now that Maeve has benefited from his earlier plan to sell the drugs. However, episode 7 will likely focus on Brandis and Clinton seeking revenge for Lizzie’s death.

The seventh episode of *Task* might focus on Brandis seeking revenge for the murder of a dedicated agent. It doesn’t really matter if his pursuit leads to Perry or Jayson – the key is that going after Grasso seems to be what the show needs to build to a satisfying conclusion. Plus, Grasso has quickly become one of the most hated characters on television this year.
