As a long-time fan, it’s been really frustrating watching The Crew saga unfold. It all started years ago when they shut down the servers for the first game, which sparked a huge outcry from the community – we even started the ‘Stop Killing Games’ campaign to try and get them to reconsider!
I loved playing this game when it first came out, but it had a really frustrating catch – you *needed* to be online to play it, even if you wanted to go it alone. So, when the servers went down, it was a total bummer because it completely broke the game and made it impossible to play at all. It was a shame, because it was a great experience while it lasted!
I was so relieved when Ubisoft actually listened to us players! They promised to add a way to play The Crew 2 offline, which is great because nobody wants to be locked out of a game they own just because of internet issues.
And that update is available right now on the PS4.
So, the developers, Ivory Tower, are calling this a ‘Hybrid Mode,’ which basically means I can seamlessly switch between playing online with others and going offline for a solo experience. It sounds pretty cool – the best of both worlds, really!
Don’t worry, The Crew 2 isn’t going anywhere! While there aren’t any immediate plans to shut down the servers, all this work behind the scenes is to make sure we can keep playing for a long time to come.
Here’s what the publisher says:
We’ve added a new hybrid mode based on player suggestions! This mode lets you play both online and offline, which will help keep the game fun and playable for a long time.
So, there you have it – your copy of The Crew 2 will officially have a long life span.
Ubisoft deserves credit for admitting their past mistakes and for making the necessary improvements to prevent similar problems in the future.
