The movie *Madame Web*, widely considered Sony Pictures’ biggest flop, is moving from Netflix to Disney+. After six years of struggling with its Spider-Man Universe films, Sony is ending this series at the end of 2024. The studio is now trying to find new audiences for these movies by releasing them on various streaming platforms.
Starting November 14, 2025, the movie *Madame Web* will no longer be available on Netflix in the U.S. and will instead stream on Disney+. What’s On Netflix reports that the film was on Netflix for about a year and a half. Currently, *Madame Web* isn’t available on Disney+ outside of the U.S. because the agreement between Sony and Disney only covers streaming rights in the U.S. after its initial theatrical release.
Out of the six films in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, *Madame Web* is considered the least successful. Audiences gave it a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but critics were much less impressed, giving it a low score of just 10% – the lowest of any film in the series. The movie also didn’t perform well at the box office, earning around $100.5 million globally on an estimated budget of $80 to $100 million.
The movie *Madame Web* is the latest installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. It tells the story of Cassandra Web, who gains the ability to see the future after a life-threatening experience. The film stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Web, along with Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott. Currently available on Netflix, *Madame Web* will move to Disney+ on November 14, 2025.
Which Sony Marvel Movies Are on Disney+?
Currently, Disney+ only streams two movies from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe: *Venom* (2018) and *Morbius* (2022) – the first and third films released in that series. This limited availability is due to a 2022 agreement between Sony and Netflix, which gives Netflix exclusive streaming rights to these films for a certain period in the US. It’s unclear whether *Venom: Let There Be Carnage* is included in this Netflix deal, as the agreement came after that movie was already released.
After the release of *Madame Web* in February 2024, Sony Pictures released two more films connected to its Spider-Man Universe: *Venom: The Last Dance* and *Kraven the Hunter*. *Venom 3* was more successful than *Madame Web*, earning $478 million worldwide, but *Kraven* performed similarly poorly. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, *Kraven* received a low 15% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and earned only $62 million globally, making it the lowest-grossing film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
With *Kraven* completing Sony’s current series of Spider-Man Universe films, both that movie and *Venom 3* are now available on Netflix and will eventually move to Disney+ in the coming years.
Sony has the highly anticipated *Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse* coming in 2027, and it’s expected to be another hit following the critical acclaim of the first two films, which are considered some of the best superhero movies ever made.
