Marvel’s Ultimate Universe has been a standout success for the company in recent years. Launched in 2023, this line of comics offers fresh takes on familiar Marvel characters within a new world, Earth-6160, heavily influenced by The Maker. For some time, Marvel has hinted at a planned conclusion for the Ultimate Universe, and with the upcoming release of *Ultimate Endgame* #1 in December, it appears they’re committed to bringing this story to a satisfying end.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, writer Deniz Camp confirmed that *Ultimate Endgame* will truly conclude the storyline. However, Camp also assured readers that the journey to the ending will be filled with a wide range of emotions and moments – from heartwarming and humorous to shocking and heartbreaking, as well as both quiet intimacy and spectacular action.
Ultimate Endgame Will Give Readers What They’re Waiting For (And So Much More)
ComicBook recently asked about the upcoming *Ultimate Endgame* storyline, specifically the return of the Maker. While fans are thrilled about this, the interviewer wanted to know what the creators are most excited for readers to experience with this new story.
Deniz Camp describes *Ultimate Endgame* as the satisfying conclusion to storylines Jon Hickman started with *Ultimate Invasion*, and that he’s been developing with Juan Frigeri and Federico Blee in *Ultimates*. He’s thrilled to bring these stories to a natural resolution within the Ultimate Universe, allowing the plot and characters to guide the narrative. The creative team aims to fill every page with a full range of emotions – beauty, tragedy, humor, surprise, quiet moments, and epic action.
The new Ultimate Universe has been incredibly expansive. Considering *Ultimate Endgame* will determine the fate of all its characters, what was your strategy for bringing everything to a satisfying conclusion?
The core idea is to remain faithful to the established stories and characters, considering not just what’s explicitly stated, but also the underlying meanings. Throughout the series, there’s been a consistent theme, and we wanted to reflect that visually in the books while also tying everything together thematically. Most importantly, we focused on remembering that each character is complex, with their own motivations and reasons for their actions, and making sure that comes across authentically in their portrayal.
Ultimate Endgame Really is The End
Are there any characters you are particularly excited to dig into with Ultimate Endgame?
Honestly, I haven’t gotten to *really* explore the Maker as a character until now – it’s mostly been through glimpses of his past. So I’m really excited for audiences to finally see what we’ve done with him. He’s changed, definitely, but I think it feels like a natural progression for who he is.
As a huge film fan, I genuinely love writing for all the heroes in the Ultimates – every opportunity is a dream come true. Looking ahead, I’m really excited about the prospect of writing Killmonger. I’m hoping I can even come close to capturing the brilliance of Peach’s X-Men – they’re just fantastic, and I’ll definitely be picking her brain for tips!
What’s the absolute limit of power?
This is the end.
Because it is.
Ultimate Endgame goes on sale December 31st from Marvel Comics.
