Peaky Blinders star reveals how new series Lazarus is unlike previous Harlan Coben shows

Harlan Coben is known for his gripping TV thrillers like “Fool Me Once,” “Missing You,” and “The Stranger.” Viewers can always expect a suspenseful and dramatic ride when they watch one of his shows.

The author is teaming up with BAFTA-winning writer Danny Brocklehurst (known for *Brassic*) to create a brand new, original thriller series specifically for television, rather than adapting one of their existing books.

Lazarus stars Sam Claflin as Joel Lazarus, a forensic psychiatrist who comes back home following the suicide of his father, Dr. Jonathan Lazarus, played by Bill Nighy.

He quickly begins experiencing strange and unsettling events with no clear explanation, hinting at a connection to a series of unsolved murders.

According to actor Richard Claflin, this story is notably darker and more intense than Harlan Coben’s previous novels, which is what makes ‘Lazarus’ unique.

The actor explained that they immediately asked to see the script for episode two after finishing the first. They were captivated by the character, the story, and the underlying ideas, and felt this project had a particularly raw and realistic edge compared to the creator’s previous work.

I thought it was a step up, especially with the addition of humor alongside Harlan Coben’s signature horror and psychological suspense. I was immediately hooked and eager to learn more, so I signed on right away – I couldn’t wait!

David Fynn, who also stars in the show, explained that while he’s seen Harlan Coben’s other series on Netflix, this Amazon production feels different. He believes the show was able to explore more intense and mature themes and content due to the different creative freedom offered by Amazon.

These stories are brilliantly crafted and really draw you in. Harlan Coben is a true expert at creating complex relationships and storylines, and this one looks fantastic – a suspenseful psychological thriller set in Gotham City, starring some incredibly talented actors.

Alexandra Roach plays Jenna Lazarus, Karla Crome plays Bella Catton, and Kate Ashfield plays Detective Alison Brown in the drama.

Fans of Harlan Coben won’t have to wait long for their next thriller! Following the release of *Lazarus* on Prime Video next week, his new series, *Run Away*, will be available soon.

Just like his work on *Lazarus*, Brocklehurst is the lead writer for *Run Away*. The show stars James Nesbitt, Ellie de Lange, Ruth Jones, Minnie Driver, Alfred Enoch, Lucian Msamati, Jon Pointing, and a number of other talented actors.
