The action-comedy film *The A-Team*, based on the popular 1980s TV show, was directed in 2010. It recently became available on Netflix and has quickly become a hit with viewers.
According to FlixPatrol, *The A-Team* is currently the fourth most popular movie on Netflix in the United States. Surprisingly, this film, released 15 years ago, is performing better than newer releases like the 2025 film at #5 and Netflix’s recent animated movie, *The Twits*, at #9. *The A-Team* follows a team of Special Forces soldiers who are wrongly accused of a crime and attempt to clear their names while on the run.
Liam Neeson starred as Hannibal Smith, the leader of the A-Team, as they work to prove their innocence. The movie also featured Jessica Biel, Quinton Jackson, Sharlto Copley, and Patrick Wilson, known from *The Conjuring*.
As a big movie fan, I remember being really excited for *The A-Team* – it had a fantastic cast and Liam Neeson is always great in action roles. But honestly, it didn’t do as well as expected in theaters. It only made $177 million worldwide, even though it cost $110 million to make. That’s a shame, especially when you consider how much more successful some of Neeson’s other films were, despite having much lower budgets.
As a big fan of the original series, I was really disappointed when the *A-Team* movie came out and critics just didn’t like it. It only scored around 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a lot of reviewers felt like the talented cast was being wasted. While everyone agreed the action was fun, the script itself was really seen as the weak point – it just didn’t quite deliver what fans were hoping for.
Liam Neeson and other actors involved were keen to make another film, but a sequel never happened. Director Joe Carnahan later confirmed this on social media, explaining that the movie didn’t earn enough money to justify a continuation. He stated, “There will NOT be a sequel. It didn’t make enough $$$ and that’s that.”
Neeson’s Recent Action Films Have Proven Much More Successful
While Liam Neeson’s remake of *The A-Team* didn’t start a big film series, he’s continued to star in successful action movies. His latest, released earlier this year, also featured Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, and Danny Huston. The film was well-received by critics and earned over $100 million globally, despite only costing $42 million to make.
Liam Neeson has several films planned for 2026 and the years following. In 2025, he’ll appear in the black comedy heist film *4 Kids Walk Into a Bank*, set to be released by Amazon MGM Studios on April 17th. He’s also starring in the comedy horror movie *Cold Storage* alongside Joe Keery and Georgina Campbell (known from *Barbarian*), which is scheduled for release on February 6th. Currently, Neeson is filming *The Mongoose*, an action thriller where he plays a war hero wrongly accused of a crime.
The A-Team is now streaming on Netflix.
