Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel are keeping screens out of the picture.
The model shared that she and the Snapchat founder have strict rules about how much screen time their sons – Hart, 7, Myles, 6, and Pierre, 19 months – are allowed. These rules also apply to Miranda’s 14-year-old son, Flynn, from her previous marriage to Orlando Bloom.
Miranda recently told TopMob News that her husband doesn’t like their young children using screens, explaining it’s because that’s how he grew up. She shared this on an upcoming episode of her podcast, *The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show*, which she co-hosts with Michael and Lauryn Bosstick.
The 42-year-old also mentioned that she and Evan, 35, have found a middle ground and allow their older children some screen time.
I told him that I really enjoy spending quality time with the kids – cuddling up and watching a movie with my 6 and 7-year-olds, and my teenager if they’re interested – maybe on weekends or for special occasions. He understood, but he didn’t want that to happen *every* weekend.
Was this another celebratory moment? During summer break, Hart had the chance to participate in a program where he briefly learned how to play Minecraft, as the founder of Kora explained.
The rules are a little different for Flynn, though. His mom, Miranda, mentioned he got a cellphone around age 13. He doesn’t use other social media platforms, but he does use Snapchat, which she says is how he stays in touch with his friends.
“They don’t really text,” she added. “They just Snap each other all day long.”
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always looking for platforms that prioritize safety, and I really appreciate what Evan created back in 2011. It’s fantastic that they offer resources like the Family Center and The Keys – they do a great job of educating people about potential online risks and how to stay safe.
She explained that they watch educational videos together which clearly show potential problems, how to avoid them, and when to ask for help if something doesn’t feel right. She added, “That’s just how we handle things at home.”
Evan, a tech CEO, previously explained his approach to letting his child use technology. He and his wife, Miranda, decided that giving their son, Flynn, a device was necessary for him to stay connected with friends during the pandemic.
He said at the 2023 Cannes Lions Festival that things have been rapidly changing since a major shift occurred, and he emphasizes to Flynn the importance of carefully evaluating information found online using critical thinking.
Evan said they encourage Flynn to be critical of what he finds online, explaining that not everything on the internet is accurate.
