New Sequel To Tim Burton’s Batman Releases This Week (& Brings An Iconic Villain Back)

A new Batman movie coming out in 2025 will continue the story that began with Tim Burton’s 1989 film. That original movie was important because it modernized the Batman character for a new generation, and Michael Keaton’s performance was a hit with both critics and audiences. While a sequel, *Batman Returns*, followed in 1992, Burton’s plans for a full series were disrupted when he was replaced as director. The resulting film, *Batman Forever*, wasn’t as well-received, but the spirit of Burton’s vision continues, and this new release will add another chapter to that story.

This week marks the release of *Batman: Revolution*, the sequel to 2024’s *Batman: Resurrection*. Author John Jackson Miller continues to expand on the world created by Tim Burton’s *Batman* films with this new novel, picking up where the last one left off. The story introduces a fresh take on the Riddler, a villain Michael Keaton’s Batman never encountered in the movies – he was originally intended to appear in a third film.

Batman: Revolution Will Continue To Expand On Burton’s Continuity

Batman: Resurrection takes place between the films Batman and Batman Returns, explaining what happened after the Joker’s death. It features the first appearances of villains Clayface and Hugo Strange, and also introduces a new version of the Riddler – Norman Pinkus, a detective and journalist. While Pinkus had a minor role previously, he’s expected to be a key character in Batman: Revolution.

Tim Burton’s *Batman* films, though short-lived as a series, created a Gotham City that felt incredibly real and distinct. His memorable portrayal of Batman and the city itself opened up many possibilities for future stories, which is why John Jackson Miller has been able to successfully continue Burton’s vision with new comic book series. The positive response to *Batman: Resurrection* has built excitement for the next installment.

I know a lot of us were disappointed when Tim Burton’s Batman films stopped, but it’s amazing to see his vision continue! Not only did the comics pick up the story, but John Jackson Miller’s novels really delve deep into that world he created, giving us so much more to explore with the characters we love, even years later. The new novel, *Batman: Revolution*, just proves how much people still connect with Burton’s take on Batman, and I have a feeling it’s going to be a huge hit.
