Just 1.3GB of PS5 Data Is on The Outer Worlds 2 Physical Disc

Microsoft’s physical release of The Outer Worlds 2 for PlayStation 5 is surprisingly small – the disc only contains 1.32GB of data, despite the game launching on October 29, 2025. This is a particularly low amount of data for a modern game release.

According to Does It Play?, a physical copy of the PS5 game contains only 1.32GB of data – the initial version 1.0. To play the full game, you’ll need to download a large 71.6GB update (version 1.002).

You can play it without an internet connection after the initial update downloads, but you do need to be online for that first download. Otherwise, the game won’t start.

Over the last year, physical copies of games published by Microsoft have often been incomplete. Many boxed versions require significant downloads before you can actually play them. Recent examples include Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and now, The Outer Worlds 2. This trend of needing to download large files even with a physical purchase is becoming common for Microsoft-published titles.

The Outer Worlds 2 comes out on PlayStation 5 on October 29th. If you purchase the Premium Edition, you can start playing four days early this week. While the standard PS5 version got a price cut before launch, the Premium Edition remains at £89.99 / $99.99.
