Disney is getting closer to releasing one of its most awaited films. The company has a lot of promising movies planned, including a live-action version of *Moana* and a new Marvel movie called *Avengers: Doomsday*. Disney is also heavily investing in animation, and a popular animated series will return to theaters in 2027, with a recent update shared by one of its lead actors.
Kristen Bell, the voice of Anna in the popular animated film *Frozen*, recently told *Variety* that work on *Frozen 3* will begin “soon,” though she couldn’t share any specific dates. The third installment in the blockbuster *Frozen* franchise, which started in 2013, is highly anticipated. The first two *Frozen* movies have earned a combined $2.6 billion worldwide, making it Disney’s second most successful animated franchise after *Toy Story* with $3.2 billion. While *Frozen 3* is currently slated for release in 2027, Bell remained tight-lipped about when production will actually begin.
She explained that the early stages are mostly about exploring ideas and figuring out the general direction. What’s great about Disney, she said, is that so many different people review everything – not to avoid conflict, but because each person brings a unique perspective. This thorough process is why their films are so successful – they cover all the bases and don’t overlook anything.
Frozen 3 Won’t Be the Last for the Franchise

A third *Frozen* movie was officially announced in 2023. Directed by Jennifer Lee, the film will continue the story of Arendelle and its characters. While details are scarce, a leaked plot summary suggests a new royal family member and a significant development in Anna’s relationship, with Anna and Elsa teaming up for a new adventure. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel will return as Anna and Elsa, alongside Jonathan Groff as Kristoff and Josh Gad as Olaf.
This movie isn’t intended to end the *Frozen* story; instead, it will continue the adventures of Anna and Elsa. Disney has already confirmed a fourth film, hoping to build on the franchise’s huge success – which now includes shorts, series, specials, documentaries, and even board games. While Disney hasn’t announced plans beyond *Frozen 4*, they often create live-action versions of their animated hits, so a live-action *Frozen* isn’t out of the question. In fact, Anya Taylor-Joy has expressed interest in playing Elsa if a live-action version is made.
The third *Frozen* movie is set to arrive in theaters on November 24, 2027. You can currently watch the first two *Frozen* films, as well as related spin-off content, on Disney+.
