Lots of great action franchises exist, from Mission: Impossible to Mad Max, covering all kinds of action styles. While John Wick has been hugely popular, another fantastic action series hasn’t gotten as much attention in the US—until now. Hulu recently added all five films in this acclaimed series, making it a perfect time to discover a truly exceptional action saga you might have missed.
As a big fan of martial arts movies, I’ve been following the Ip Man series for years. It stars Donnie Yen – you might recognize him from Rogue One or even John Wick: Chapter 4 – and tells the incredible story of the man who taught Bruce Lee everything he knew. Starting back in 2008, these five films have become a huge hit, earning over $426 million worldwide. And the best part? You can now stream all of them in one place!
Hulu added all four Ip Man movies, plus the spin-off Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy, in October. You can now stream Ip Man, Ip Man 2, Ip Man 3, Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy, and Ip Man 4: The Finale all on one platform—and that’s the order we recommend watching them in! If you love action movies and haven’t seen the Ip Man series yet, now’s a great time to start.
The news is even more promising because several other Ip Man films are currently being made.
More Ip Man Is on the Way
Even though the fourth Ip Man movie concluded the main storyline, the franchise isn’t over yet. Plans are underway for another prequel focusing on the character Master Z, and there’s also talk of a fifth Ip Man film – though the prequel seems more likely to happen.
Back in 2019, a sequel to Master Z was reportedly being planned, with Max Zhang expected to reprise his role. However, that was six years ago, and a lot has changed since then. If the sequel was still in the works, we’d likely have heard some news about it by now.
Donnie Yen will reprise his role as Ip Man in a fifth film installment. Mandarin Motion Pictures revealed plans for Ip Man 5 at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, and Yen has confirmed he’s on board.
Coming Soon to Hulu
Hulu added the Ip Man movies in October, and now they’re bringing even more popular titles to the service in November. They’ve shared a complete list of what’s coming next month, and here’s what you can expect to see added on November 1st.
