Now that Season 2 of Gen V has finished, fans are wondering what’s next for the show and the The Boys universe, especially if a third season of Gen V will be made. Currently, the focus is shifting to Season 5 of The Boys, which will be the final season. The ending of Gen V Season 2 was more about preparing for the conclusion of The Boys than hinting at another season of the spinoff. Be warned: Spoilers ahead for Gen V Season 2, Episode 8!
The season finale of Gen V brings Marie, Annabeth, Emma, Jordan, Cate, and Sam together with Starlight and A-Train, who ask them to help battle Homelander and The Seven. This sets the stage for Season 5 of The Boys, promising a large-scale conflict between superheroes that will likely end with Homelander’s downfall. After that, the story could go in many directions, and a third season of Gen V could be included as part of that future.
Has Gen V Season 3 Been Confirmed?
As of today, Amazon hasn’t officially announced whether Gen V will be renewed for a third season. This is different from Season 2, which was confirmed while the first season was still airing, but it doesn’t automatically mean Season 3 won’t happen. The decision will likely come down to how many people watch Season 2. According to creator Eric Kripke, they have plans for Season 3, but need enough viewers to make it worthwhile: “We have a plan for Gen V Season 3, and we’re psyched about it, but we need enough viewers to watch Season 2 to justify Season 3.”
Fans of Gen V can be reassured that Amazon is committed to expanding The Boys universe, even though the fifth season will be the last for the original show. Besides the prequel Vought Rising, featuring Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and set in the 1950s, there’s also The Boys: Mexico, potentially starring Diego Luna. A third season of Gen V would help connect these new shows, which could be appealing as the main series comes to a close.
Early viewing numbers for Gen V are looking good, though not definitive. The Wrap reports the Season 2 premiere was the most-watched episode ever, racking up 424 million minutes viewed. The show has also consistently topped Prime Video’s global and U.S. charts on FlixPatrol for weeks. Combined with positive reviews – Season 2 currently has a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – this all suggests a likely renewal. However, whether the show continues to perform well throughout the season will be the deciding factor.
Gen V Season 3’s Potential Cast & Characters
At the end of Gen V Season 2, all the main characters are still alive, but they’re getting ready to confront Homelander. This likely means they’ll appear in The Boys Season 5, though their survival isn’t guaranteed by the time Gen V Season 3 arrives. Assuming everyone makes it through Season 3, here’s who we can expect to see as the core group of characters:
- Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau
- Lizze Broadway as Emma Meyer
- Maddie Phillips as Cate Dunlap
- London Thor and Derek Luh as Jordan Li
- Asa Germann as Sam Riordan
- Keeya King as Annabeth
Even though he took a different path in the season finale, Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas) is expected to return in future seasons of Gen V. His storyline in Season 2 was particularly meaningful as a tribute to the late Chance Perdomo and his character, Andre Anderson. We can also anticipate seeing other supporting characters like Justine (Maia Jae Bastidas) and Harper (Jessica Clement) again.
Now that Cipher/Doug (Hamish Linklater) has been unmasked and Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater) is defeated, the show will need to introduce a new villain. It would also be fun to see characters from The Boys make an appearance, but that depends on how things go for them in Season 5 of that show.
Gen V Season 3’s Story Will Need To Be Quite Different
By the end of Season 2, Episode 8 of Gen V, the main storyline – the mystery surrounding Cipher and the defeat of Thomas Godolkin – is fully wrapped up. However, the finale focuses on connecting to the larger The Boys universe, setting up events for Season 5, much like Season 1 of Gen V prepared the way for Season 4 of The Boys. The final scene, where the main characters meet Starlight and A-Train, is specifically designed to bridge the two shows.
If Gen V gets a third season, it will be the first one not directly setting up events in The Boys. Instead, it will react to the events of The Boys‘ final season, making it difficult to know what will happen. The world will likely be different without Homelander, and that will have a big impact on all the Supes.
It’s likely that Season 3 of Gen V will focus more on storylines within Godolkin University, perhaps with a new villain – possibly the new Dean. The season could also delve deeper into existing relationships, like those between Marie and her sister, Marie and Jordan, Emma and Sam, and Cate’s journey to becoming a true hero. While the overall plot might shift, the show will hopefully still prioritize the characters we’ve come to know.
Gen V is now streaming on Prime Video. The Boys Season 5 is expected to release sometime in 2026.
