Love Is Blind Creator Chris Coelen Defends Outcome of Season 9 Finale

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Love Is Blind season nine.

Chris Coelen isn’t blind to Love Is Blind critics.

He also disagrees with their assessment. Even though none of the couples from season nine got married by the end of the show, the creator still believes the season was successful overall.

In a recent interview with Netflix’s Tudum, Chris explained that the show is designed to explore two key ideas. The first is whether a genuine connection can form based purely on personality. The second is whether that connection can survive the challenges of everyday life if the couple gets engaged.

The way he sees it, the most recent installment completed those objectives.

He explained that in Season 9, every couple had at least one person who doubted their connection could survive outside the show, leading them to not get married. He believes this is a positive sign, proving the experiment is successful – and perhaps more effective than ever before.

At the end of the season, three couples remained: Ali Lima and Anton Yarosh, Megan Walerius and Jordan Keltner, and Kalybriah Haskins and Edmond Harvey. Despite reaching the finale, no weddings actually took place. Jordan and Megan broke up before they could get married, and both Ali and Kalybriah ultimately turned down their partners at the altar.

Chris was surprised no couples got married this season, but he’s happy everyone prioritized their own well-being.

We always hope our contestants on Love is Blind find lasting relationships, as that’s what they tell us they’re looking for. But ultimately, we support them in making the choices that are best for them, and that’s what we saw happen in this case.

The 57-year-old is optimistic that more single people will be open to finding love in the show’s famous pods, especially since Netflix has already announced season 10 is coming.

You know, as someone who follows relationship trends closely, I can confidently say the Love Is Blind experiment is really hitting its stride. Chris, the creator, recently shared that he’s seeing more success stories than ever, and I completely agree. It’s fantastic to see couples forming genuine connections based on emotional intimacy first, and falling in love with each other for who they truly are. I predict we’ll continue to see many happy couples emerge from the show for a long time to come!

We’ll likely see some couples realize their feelings aren’t enough to make the relationship work. No matter what happens, the experiences they have – and the stories of the people involved – will always be a mix of happiness, challenges, and wonder, truly reflecting the human condition.

Ultimately, Anton’s lifestyle and money problems weren’t a good fit for what Ali wanted.

She told the truck driver at their wedding ceremony, “I can’t marry you.” She explained that the man she connected with while they were dating in the pods was very different from the person she’d gotten to know after meeting in person.

So, she listened to her intuition.

She explained to the cameras that the experience didn’t meet her expectations and felt off. She also felt he hadn’t been completely honest about his life.

Anton wasn’t sure what went wrong – whether it was a matter of appearances, a change in their connection, or simply how they lived together. However, he insisted he always acted with care and concern for her.

Despite finding common ground through shared experiences with family members who have Type 1 diabetes, Megan and her fiancĂ© had very different approaches to life – he favored simplicity, while she enjoyed luxury. This ultimately led Megan to end their engagement, as seen in the season nine finale.

“It feels like we’re just passing each other without really connecting, like we’re leading totally different lives,” the entrepreneur explained. But Jordan didn’t understand what he meant, responding, “I don’t get it.”

After Megan mentioned Jordan’s fussy eating and difficult travel arrangements as a father, he responded by questioning why she had chosen him during the initial pod dates.

She admitted she’d hoped their differences would work out, but ultimately had doubts. “Looking back,” she said, starting to cry, “I realize I never wanted to get married and put either of us through that kind of pain.”

Jordan admitted his biggest regret was letting his son, Luca, meet her. He explained in a private interview that he believes she doesn’t love him for who he is, and that realization gives him the peace he needs to move on.

Megan shared that the difficult experience made her doubt her abilities as a mother, wondering if she was too focused on her own needs.

Okay, so this is a tough one. At their wedding, both Kalybriah and Edmond actually said they were deeply in love – they were very open about it! But, heartbreakingly, Kalybriah ended up saying ‘no’ at the altar, and she sincerely apologized. It was a really difficult moment for both of them, obviously.

She told the realtor she needed someone who was fully committed, and admitted she wasn’t in that place herself at the moment. However, she made sure to say that saying no didn’t mean she didn’t care for him.

Edmond was upset and started crying, but Kalybriah thanked him for handling the situation with dignity as she explained her difficult decision. When he asked if they might date sometime in the future, Kalybriah reassured him that she wasn’t ruling it out completely.

“I am shocked,” he said in a confessional of her decision. “There was no bright side.”

Joe ended things with his partner before they could get married in season nine, after experiencing an emotional breakdown while trying on his tuxedo.

Madison later shared with Glamour that Joe presented different sides of himself depending on whether they were filming or not. When the cameras weren’t rolling, he was much more comforting and affectionate – they were very close and physically connected. But when they were on camera, like during the pool party scene, he acted completely differently, and that contrast was noticeable.

Madison directly asked Joe if he was attracted to her, and he admitted it had been a problem while they were on vacation.

She asked him what kind of women he usually dated, and he said he preferred petite women. Although she’s generally very confident, his answer made her feel insecure at that moment.

Joe explained that he was clumsily trying to describe a recurring pattern in his past relationships, and didn’t intend to compare or judge anyone.

Nick broke up with Annie right before their wedding, telling her he felt upset that she always claimed to love him more than he loved her.

Despite Nick ending the relationship, the hairstylist didn’t accept it and pleaded with him to stay, saying, “Just stay with me and love me.”

“You can’t make one plus one equal three,” he said, prompting her to say, “Watch me.”

Nick finally explained to Annie that he didn’t want to marry her because he was unhappy.

Dave and Lauren’s relationship didn’t work out after they arrived in Honduras. While they discovered they had friends in common, the real issue was Dave’s discomfort with Lauren having previously been intimate with someone they both knew, a revelation she shared with him during filming.

Honestly, it was really hurtful to learn that Dave wasn’t eager to include Lauren in his life with his friends and family. He hadn’t even told his dad about their engagement! And his sister
well, she became a major source of problems, completely disapproving of their relationship from the start. It felt like he was deliberately keeping her separate.

As a lifestyle expert, I was really surprised by how things played out with Monica and Joey! Everyone – myself included – thought they were a perfect match and were headed for marriage. It seemed like a sure thing! But when it came down to it, Monica made the tough call to postpone things, saying she wasn’t ready to walk down the aisle just yet. It definitely caught a lot of us off guard!

She said, tears welling up, that she was completely sure of how she felt, but it seemed like neither she nor Joey was fully ready. Joey wholeheartedly agreed.

He hugged her, and then reassured me that it was alright. He said we clearly care about each other a lot, and that’s obvious to everyone. But he felt like we both needed to focus on growing as individuals right now, and he admitted he wasn’t quite ready for anything more. Honestly, he wasn’t feeling completely sure about things at this moment, and he was open about that.

Despite having significant differences in beliefs and values, like religion and politics, Ben and Sara appeared to be in agreement as their wedding day approached. However, they eventually made the difficult decision to separate and end their relationship.

Sara, who previously told me she didn’t see a future with Ben, explained to him, “Ben, I care about you deeply, but I’ve always envisioned a partner who shares my way of thinking. Because of that, I can’t continue this relationship. I’m truly sorry if that’s not what you wanted to hear.”

She explained that while she felt a strong connection and genuine feelings, she couldn’t move forward because their core beliefs didn’t align. Ultimately, her values were too important to compromise.

Devin and Virginia appeared to be a well-matched couple, looking forward to their future together after completing the relationship pods. However, their harmony was disrupted when they started discussing a prenuptial agreement.

Ultimately, more significant problems led Virginia to end her relationship with Devin and decide not to marry him.

After leaving the altar, she explained, with tears in her eyes, that she often felt a need to shield Devin throughout their relationship. She wasn’t sure if it stemmed from her upbringing, but protecting him was always a priority. This meant avoiding certain sensitive subjects, like politics, and respecting his boundaries, even if it meant they didn’t fully explore all aspects of their connection. Ultimately, they didn’t reach a deeper level of understanding in those areas.

In the end, Daniel and Taylor were the happy couple who decided to commit to a lifetime of love, promising to stay together long after the holiday season was over.

Despite a rocky start – Taylor thought Daniel had been checking her Instagram and knew what she looked like – they were able to move past it.

After sharing heartfelt vows, the couple had a lovely wedding and celebrated with a reception.

“We did it!” Daniel exclaimed, sitting with Taylor after their wedding. Taylor added, beaming, “We can’t wait to start our life together.”

The art dealer, who later became well-known, proposed to the author of Keeping Well after a complicated relationship involving Hannah Jiles. However, they eventually realized they were better suited as friends and ended their brief engagement.

Okay, so I was devastated when I heard, but apparently, it just wasn’t meant to be. Brittany actually explained it, and honestly, it made sense, even if it hurt! She said they talked about whether a relationship could work right from the start of the trip, and as time went on, they just realized the spark wasn’t there. It wasn’t some huge blow-up or anything, thankfully. They’re both really good at talking things out, so they just
knew. It was a really respectful, clean break, which is honestly all you can ask for, I guess. Still doesn’t make it any easier to accept, though!

Soon after being on a Netflix dating show, Brittany started dating musician Mod Sun in November 2024. However, she announced their breakup in July 2025.

Monica and Stephen split up after she discovered explicit text messages her fiancé had exchanged with another woman, shortly after returning from a trip to Mexico. Stephen initially apologized on camera during the show, and then again on social media after the episode was broadcast.

In an October 2024 Instagram post, he expressed regret if his presence bothered anyone, apologizing and saying he wished those affected hadn’t had to start their day. He added that he still cared for them regardless.

After leaving the pods, Hannah and Nick definitely experienced their share of challenges and arguments. Hannah even pointed out that she felt respected only when she contributed equally to the relationship.

Everything fell apart when Hannah realized she didn’t want to marry Nick. He described the split as incredibly painful, saying it was one of the worst experiences of his life.

Since then, Hannah has admitted the show forced her to do some self-introspection.

You know, through some recent self-reflection, I’ve realized I have areas where I can grow. I’ve always been a very straightforward person, and I own that! But I’m starting to understand that how you say something is just as important as what you say. It’s a big lesson – delivery really is everything. It’s something I’m actively working on, and I think it will make a huge difference in how I connect with people.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen a lot of couples, and Taylor and Garrett? They just clicked. It felt like fate! Of course, every relationship has its bumps – they had a little scare when Taylor discovered Garrett had responded to a message from an ex. But Garrett explained he quickly confirmed his engagement and ended things with her, and honestly, the rest is reality TV gold! They really are a match made in heaven, and their journey on Love Is Blind is proof of that.

The pair were still married at the Love Is Blind reunion in October 2024.

You’re not mistaken! Marissa and Ramses were initially considered a strong couple likely to succeed, but Ramses ultimately canceled their wedding because he had doubts.

After a heartfelt conversation, Marissa excitedly told her fiancĂ©, “I see a wonderful future with you, and I want to marry you.” He replied, simply, “I know loving someone is always a risk, and I accept that.”

He pointed out that their disagreements – including differing views on the military – might be too significant to overcome. He explained that, from his own marriage and observing others, love isn’t always enough for a successful relationship. Other factors need to align as well.

Marissa tried to stay strong, but as soon as she realized it was really over, she started crying. She told him, “I wish you hadn’t come here.” She was hurt and confused, saying, “I thought we were certain, but you’re not? This is awful. I really wanted you to pick me.” She later said that this was the worst day of her life.

Tyler and Ashley were popular with viewers as their relationship developed smoothly. However, things became complicated when Tyler revealed he had three children, a revelation Ashley referred to unkindly. Online, people are debating the extent of Tyler’s role as a father, but he hasn’t publicly commented on the discussion.

By the October 2024 reunion show, Ashley and Tyler had resolved their issues, reconnected, and ultimately got married.

Newlyweds Tyler and Ashley reflected on how much their lives have changed since they first met two months ago. “Now, we finally get to spend forever together,” Tyler shared as he sat with Ashley.

However, Ashley later shared that the pair had called it quits following over one year of marriage.

In a statement released in January 2025, she announced that she and Tyler have separated and are getting divorced. She explained that they had been separated for several weeks and, after a lot of thought, realized they weren’t compatible and couldn’t continue their marriage, despite hoping they could find a way forward with honesty and understanding.

Alex and Tim resolved their big disagreement during their trip to Mexico and appeared to be closer than before when they returned to Washington, D.C. Their relationship seemed to become even stronger when Tim had a heartfelt conversation with Alex’s father.

After Alex met Tim’s family, they had another fight, and Tim ended their engagement, telling Alex he never wanted to see her again. Since the breakup, both Alex and Tim have publicly shared their sides of the story, with Alex clarifying that the split wasn’t amicable or agreed upon by both of them.

Chelsea and Jimmy had a few arguments during the season, but they seemed to resolve their differences on a fun date at an amusement park just before their wedding.

Jimmy ended his engagement with Chelsea, leaving her shocked and in tears, as he felt it was time for their relationship to end.

Jimmy confessed to Chelsea during their date, ‘I’m deeply in love with you and really want a relationship, but I absolutely don’t want to get married. It’s just not something I can do.’

Oh my gosh, he said they’re trying to wrap everything up into one big thing, but it’s actually been SO much – like five or six huge problems that seriously upset me! I mean, it’s been killing me! Especially when Chelsea just blurted out Jimmy’s secret about him and his friend
it was awful! I was devastated for him, honestly.

After a final, emotional argument about their past relationships, Chelsea broke down in tears and left, saying, “I really thought we had a chance.”

The pair were both single during the March 2024 reunion.

Clay was reluctant to marry because of his father’s past infidelity, but AD comforted him, assuring him they could overcome any challenges together, and things seemed good between them.

However, when it came time to say “I do” at their wedding, Clay said “I don’t.” He explained to AD that getting married wouldn’t be a responsible decision because he wasn’t prepared.

Cue the shock.

He told AD he would do the necessary work to figure things out, and they would face it together. He emphasized that he wasn’t ready for marriage, and she deserved someone who was. He explained he wouldn’t commit unless he could give her his all, and he wasn’t at that point, so he couldn’t say yes to her proposal right now.

The discovery deeply upset AD, causing her to break down in tears and angrily state that the relationship had been a complete waste of her time.

Clay explained that both financial and emotional connections were major factors in his decision to leave. He confessed, “I had to ask myself if I was still a husband, and the truth was no. I also realized I wasn’t in love anymore.”

At the reunion, Clay admitted he regretted how things went with AD and hoped they could try dating again, but AD didn’t reveal whether she’d be open to the idea.

AD admitted she did go on a few dates with her costar, Matthew Duliba, after they finished filming, but they are no longer seeing each other.

She announced in May 2025 she’s expecting her first baby with fiancĂ© Ollie Sutherland.

Amy and Johnny were the only couple from season six to get married, and their wedding was beautiful! What made it even more special was how well their families blended together – Amy’s dad even told Johnny’s sister that he now feels like he has several daughters.

As for Johnny, he too declared at his reception that his father-in-law was his “new dad.”

They are still married.

Brittany and Kenneth’s relationship began passionately, but it didn’t last after they faced the challenges of everyday life.

Brittany explained to Life & Style that things changed after they left the pods and returned to Charlotte. She felt they had a very strong connection while isolated, but that passion faded once they were back in the real world.

Brittany and her former fiancĂ© are still friends. At a recent get-together, she explained that even though their romantic relationship ended, they’ll always share a strong connection.

I was completely shocked when I found out Laura and Jeramey broke up! Apparently, Jeramey reconnected with Sarah Ann Bick, someone they knew from the pod, while he was out one night. Laura found out and, honestly, she was furious. She basically told him to get lost – I felt so bad for her, but also so proud she stood up for herself!

But instead of that, he went off to ride jet skis with Sarah Ann.

At the March 2024 reunion, Jeramey shared that he and Sarah Ann had been casually dating for about a year after the show finished filming, but they are no longer together.

Laura is dating someone else, who she did not identify at the reunion.

Despite overcoming challenges like Izzy’s initial connection with Johnie Maraist and Stacy’s preference for a certain lifestyle (she didn’t want to use paper plates!), Stacy ultimately decided not to marry Izzy because he wasn’t truthful about his financial history.

Even though the wedding didn’t happen, Stacy still hoped to continue her relationship with Izzy, who was understandably heartbroken.

“We’re at different spots,” he told her. “It really breaks my heart.”

Stacy appreciated Izzy helping her to open up and share her feelings, but she wasn’t fully convinced about their long-term compatibility. She explained that she needed to be absolutely certain before committing to a lifetime together, and ‘fairly certain’ just wasn’t enough.

Izzy is now dating surgical assistant Shelby Webb.

I was SO rooting for Lydia and Milton! They seemed like the only good thing to come out of season five, honestly. But then, I nearly fell out of my chair when I heard her on AD Smith’s podcast, What’s the Reality, in June 2025. She said she filed for divorce after less than three years! I just
 I can’t believe it. It’s heartbreaking!

She explained it wasn’t a single event, but rather a build-up of problems. When she told him she’d inform him when the divorce papers were finalized, he said he wouldn’t sign them without a non-disclosure agreement.

She explained that she decided to go public with the news because she’d been holding it in for too long. She felt it was important to share what she’d been going through, as staying silent had become unbearable.

Lydia stated that while they were married, other women accused her husband, Milton, 26, of flirting excessively and buying them drinks at bars. He denied these claims, but instead of addressing them, he questioned why Lydia would even consider the rumors to be true.

Throughout the season, Paul and Micah seemed like a surprisingly good match, despite their differences. However, at the final commitment ceremony, things fell apart. Micah, sensing Paul’s uncertainty, asked him to speak first, and he ultimately decided not to get married.

“I feel terrible,” Micah admitted. “If Paul had proposed, I definitely would have accepted.”

Okay, so at the recent reunion, Paul and I had a really honest conversation. He actually apologized for something he said privately – he admitted he’d struggled with picturing Micah as a mom, and he wanted to make things right. It was a brave apology, and I think it really cleared the air between them. It’s always good to address those difficult feelings, you know?

Paul admitted he hadn’t been fair to her when he spoke earlier. He clarified that what he meant was he didn’t envision them having children together.

Although they got back together for a short time after finishing the show, Paul and Micah eventually split up permanently. Paul said the final breakup happened when he went to visit Micah in Arizona.

On the show After the Altar, Paul shared that he was seeing someone new—a woman who loves to travel and appreciates his cooking. He later publicly confirmed their relationship on Instagram with Geneva Dunham, who works as an eyelash technician.

Even though Kwame’s mother didn’t come to the wedding and he’d had some questionable chats with Micah – someone he’d gotten close to during the show – Kwame and Chelsea were still one of the three couples who got married at the end of season four.

At the reunion, Chelsea shared that she’d finally met her husband’s mother. Kwame also apologized to his wife and her family for his actions, explaining that his conversations with Micah hadn’t been his best moment.

The couple is living in Seattle with their beloved dog Rocky.

Everyone says love is blind, but sometimes it takes a while – or even getting engaged to someone else – to realize you’ve made a mistake. That’s what happened to Zack, who proposed to Irina Solomonova, but they broke up while on vacation in Mexico.

Despite initial challenges and objections from Bliss’ father, the couple reconciled and happily got married. They immediately celebrated as husband and wife with their first dance to Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance” – the same song that brought them together during their time in the pods.

Following the final episode, Zack posted a picture of him and his partner on Instagram, writing “Eternal Bliss” in the caption.

The couple announced in November 2023 that they were expecting a baby, and in April 2024, they welcomed their daughter, Galileo Terri Rayne Goytowski.

It feels like we haven’t seen a Love Is Blind couple with such instant chemistry since Cameron Hamilton and Lauren Speed in the very first season!

Tiffany, 36, and Brett, 37, were the oldest couple in the experiment and still managed to get married, despite a last-minute wardrobe mishap when Brett’s pants didn’t fit! A special thanks to seamstress Lucia for saving the day.

Since filming wrapped, Tiffany and Brett moved to Portland and are still perfect! Phew!

After SK said “I don’t” at their wedding, he and Raven seemingly parted ways.

Once the show stopped filming, the ex-couple surprised everyone by getting back together, and they announced they were dating again during the season three reunion show.

A month later, the couple announced their separation following accusations of infidelity against SK. In a joint statement posted on social media in November, SK and Raven explained they couldn’t share details due to ongoing legal issues and asked for privacy during this difficult time. They thanked their followers for supporting their relationship.

Viewers were shocked and disappointed when Jackie decided to meet with Josh Demas—another person she’d formed a connection with while in the pods—before officially breaking up with Marshall.

During the reunion, Jackie clarified what happened with her relationships. She explained, “I ended things with Marshall before I met Josh at the coffee shop. It might seem like I was unfaithful, but I want to be clear: I didn’t cheat.”

Jackie spoke about her breakup with Marshall, taking responsibility for her part in what happened. She explained that they simply weren’t a good match for each other.

Jackie and Josh were still a couple and sharing a home during the “After the Altar” episodes, but she revealed on Instagram Live in September 2023 that they had split up.

Marshall shared with TopMob that he and fellow contestant Kacia Clark connected briefly after the show ended. However, he decided to create some distance for himself from the whole experience, so things didn’t work out.

On the show After the Altar, Marshall shared that he’s been dating Dr. Chay Barnes for a year and hopes to marry her. They got engaged in December 2023.
