The Hunt family is expressing their grief.
Following the confirmation by Texas’ Camp Mystic that 27 campers and staff members perished in the floods on July 4th, it has been reported that Clark Hunt’s niece, Janie Hunt (aged 9), was among the victims. This tragic news comes from the family of the Kansas City Chiefs owner, Clark Hunt.
On Instagram, July 6th, Tavia Hunt, Clark’s wife, expressed her deep sorrow over the destruction caused by the floods in Wimberley and the heart-wrenching loss of lives. Among those lost were a beloved Hunt family cousin and several friends’ young daughters.
To put it simply, this recent flood stands out as one of the most devastating in the U.S. over the last century. As reported by NBC News on July 7, a total of 81 lives have been lost, with 75 of those being in Kerr County, home to Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ camp.
Tavia pondered, ‘How can we put faith in a supposedly benevolent, omniscient, and omnipotent deity when such unimaginable suffering, including that of innocent children, is permitted?’ This question is profound and deeply emotional—a question the Bible doesn’t evade. The scriptures echo with the pleas of those whose faith has been tested as they struggle to trust the same God they believe allowed their pain.
In response to this unfortunate event, the Texas summer camp, currently accommodating 750 campers, conveyed profound sadness and disbelief about the devastating disaster that occurred.
Following the devastating floods on the Guadalupe River, Camp Mystic deeply mourns the loss of 27 campers and staff members. Our hearts ache in unity with the affected families as they navigate through this unbearable hardship. We keep them in our thoughts and prayers at all times.
The camp has pledged to use a great deal of effort, including substantial resources, in the quest to find the girls who are still unaccounted for.
The statement expressed heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming support received from the community, emergency services, and authorities at various levels. We kindly request your ongoing prayers, understanding, and discretion as our family members deal with this difficult situation. May God’s blessings continue to envelop each one of us during these challenging times.
On July 6th, officials confirmed during a press briefing that 11 campers and one counselor were yet to be found at the camp. Meanwhile, following the news of the unfortunate incident, Jenna Bush Hager, a host on “Today,” spoke about her mother Barbara Bush’s connection to Camp Mystic.
Jenna mentioned during a July 7 episode of Today that her mom used to work as a counselor at this camp. Moreover, she grew up there alongside many friends. Recently, she’s heard both heartwarming and heart-rending tales about the experiences of those same friends and their children who attended the camp just last week.
