Microsoft is working on some big games, like the new Halo: Campaign Evolved. However, it’s unclear what the future holds for some of their other franchises. Perfect Dark development has been paused, and the planned reboot of The Coalition’s game was cancelled. This leaves many wondering about the fate of Forza Motorsport.
In an interview with Famitsu (as reported by Windows Central), Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer confirmed that the Forza franchise hasn’t been cancelled. He explained that development priorities sometimes shift to games with closer release dates. He also acknowledged the concern caused by recent downsizing at Turn 10 Studios, the developers of Forza Motorsport.
We want to help many games succeed, and sometimes we give developers extra time to avoid unnecessary stress.
Recent layoffs at Microsoft significantly impacted Turn 10 Studios, reducing its staff by almost half. Now, the studio is primarily focused on supporting Forza Horizon 6, specifically by developing the PlayStation 5 version of the game, which will be released after the Xbox and PC versions. It’s unclear if Forza Motorsport will be revived, as Microsoft is currently prioritizing ongoing support for the Horizon series.
We’ll have to wait and see, but Forza Horizon 6 is scheduled to come out in 2026, and fans have been asking for this for years: it’s set in Japan! Expect to race through cities like Tokyo and around landmarks like Mt. Fuji. Playground Games promises that Tokyo will be one of their most impressively detailed and complex environments yet.
