Rebel Ridge (2024)
Rebel Ridge is an action thriller available on Netflix and continues to be one of the platform’s best, even a year after it first came out. The film stars Aaron Pierre as Terry Richmond, a former Marine who finds himself targeted by a corrupt police force in a Louisiana town.
It’s fair to compare this movie to First Blood, but while that film focused on action and shootouts, this one is a suspenseful thriller with a deeper meaning. The acting in Rebel Ridge is also excellent, particularly Don Johnson as the crooked police chief and AnnaSophia Robb as a kind court clerk.
The film received overwhelmingly positive reviews, boasting a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It was also immediately recognized with several awards, including a Critics’ Choice Television Award, a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award, and two NAACP Awards.
The Strangers (2008)
If you’re looking for a scary movie to watch on Netflix with Halloween approaching, The Strangers is a good choice. Released in 2008, it’s one of the first films in the now-popular ‘home invasion’ horror style, and features Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman in a truly frightening and intense story.

Over time, more and more people have discovered this clever satire, and its reputation continues to grow.
