Looking for a birthday card? Now you can get one featuring Alan Carr with the message, “How old? I’m flabbergasted!” A clever publisher quickly capitalized on the excitement surrounding Carr’s appearances on The Celebrity Traitors, proving that the show is already a success, regardless of who gets eliminated or wins.
From the very beginning, Carr was the most interesting player. Choosing him as a Traitor was a surprising move that the show’s producers quickly realized was brilliant. Even his fellow Traitors were genuinely surprised and amused when they found out who was on their side. This meant Carr was at the heart of everything from day one, and his naturally playful, open personality became a powerful – and hilarious – tool for deception.
Honestly, the guy just had this incredible energy, a real spark. It’s what made it so shocking – he was the only one who could pull off something as brazen as, well, killing Paloma Faith right in front of a crowd. And the brilliance of it? He did it so openly, so casually, that nobody even suspected him. He was hiding in plain sight, and it worked perfectly.
Despite some suspicions, his housemates seem unwilling to get rid of him – Lucy Beaumont put it perfectly, saying the show wouldn’t be the same without him. He has a unique knack for defusing tension with unexpected comments, like yelling about a horse during a serious challenge, or suggesting Celia Imrie needs to add some ‘wind’ to a badminton game. Even Celia, who suspected he might be a traitor, admitted his plan would be clever, but still voted to keep him. Viewers also seem charmed by him. The question is, what makes him so likeable?

This year’s cast represents a wide range of British celebrities. It includes rising stars like Niko Omilana, Ruth Codd, and Cat Burns, who are new to the show and haven’t fully established public personas. Several actors, including Nick Mohammed and Mark Bonnar, also fall into this category. Interestingly, some viewers recognized Bonnar from his role as a villain on Line of Duty, and he jokingly told them to stop watching the show – a rare request for an actor!
Some celebrities, like Stephen Fry and Jonathan Ross, are so well-known and have been famous for so long that their personal reputations overshadow any controversies. Fry, for example, initially faced very little criticism, simply because of who he is. He was right to admit that it’s rare to be in a situation where you don’t know how you’ll respond.
Although some celebrities seem distant and unrelatable, Alan Carr strikes a different chord. He’s well-known – even friends with stars like Adele – but still feels like an ordinary person. He began his comedy career by making his coworkers laugh during his time at a call center. He once shared the source of his confidence, explaining that hecklers throwing tomatoes are manageable, unlike enduring hours of negativity from strangers.
Alan Carr’s charm and cleverness have made him a beloved public figure, but also contributed to a troubling betrayal. He seems to view his Scottish castle as his own domain, treating everyone else as temporary visitors.

The Celebrity Traitors continues on Thursday 23rd October at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
