Actress Lynne McGranger has spoken openly regarding her impending departure from the long-running series “Home and Away,” an upcoming event that promises to leave viewers heartbroken.
A few days ago, it became official that McGranger will depart from her character Irene Roberts due to increasingly noticeable memory issues which she could no longer deny.
In the previews for upcoming episodes, Irene becomes frantic in search of explanations regarding her recent memory lapses. She chooses to submit herself to medical examinations at the hospital, and the findings leave her reeling and alter her life dramatically.
McGranger informed TV Week, “She comes to understand that something isn’t as it should be. This moment marks a change for her – from then on, she attempts to avoid babysitting duties due to sheer fear.
As I find myself in consultation with Dr. Bree (Juliet Godwin), she outlines the examination she’ll conduct, which involves a lumbar puncture procedure – a process I’m about to undergo.
McGranger added: “Bree isn’t ready to declare it as this or that, but she firmly advises getting those tests done.

Regarding those who are close to Irene, John (Shane Withington) has his suspicions that Irene’s forgetfulness might be hiding something deeper. He muses that it could possibly be the result of a minor stroke or some similar health issue.
Later on, Doctor Bree contacts Irene and John again to review the test findings. Most of the results turn out to be negative, but there’s one exception.
The final chapter of Irene’s tale remains unknown, but it’s likely to tug at the heartstrings of devoted viewers of the Australian soap opera for quite some time.
McGranger expressed her feelings about leaving as follows: “It’s a mix of joy and sadness for me to end an almost 33-year career in my cherished role, working alongside people I care for deeply, regard highly, and now consider like family. This role has been the most rewarding and enduring one of my life.
