After seven seasons of chaotic adventures, the comedy series Brassic has concluded. The show followed the Hawley gang, a group of amateur thieves led by Vinnie O’Neill, played by Joe Gilgun.
The season finale raised a few questions, like who shot Vinnie in the woods. However, many viewers were most surprised and disappointed by the complete absence of popular characters Carol, Cardi, and Erin.
Michelle Keegan, who plays Erin, wasn’t in many episodes this season because she was pregnant during filming in late 2024 and early 2025. She filmed a few scenes beforehand – you might notice her wearing a large coat in the school reunion episode to conceal her baby bump – and then returned to film her last scenes after giving birth to her daughter, Palma.
Although Erin didn’t make it to the final episode, a touching phone call between her and Vinnie occurred in the second-to-last episode. She called him while stuck in an elevator, giving fans the romantic moment they’d been hoping for.
Keegan is working on other projects, like the ITV crime drama ‘The Blame,’ but she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of reprising her role as Erin sometime in the future.

Before filming the last episodes of Brassic, the actress shared how much she loves the show, describing it as a comfortable and familiar place. She explained that each year, after working on other projects, returning to Brassic felt like coming home because it always filmed around the same time.
I really enjoyed the job because it was great to reconnect with everyone I worked with. I think I’ll miss it more this year now that it’s ending, but I’m still hoping it might come back somehow.
Cardi and Carol, played by Tom Hanson and Bronagh Gallagher, are missing from the final episode, and had very little screen time throughout the entire final season. It’s revealed early on through a video call that they are in Ireland working on their relationship, and they don’t appear again after that.
Hanson and Gallagher weren’t able to film the final season of Brassic due to prior commitments. Hanson was busy filming a new Irish series called These Sacred Vows, and Gallagher was working on a Netflix film called How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, as well as touring with her band.
He said he was really sad they weren’t there, explaining how much he cared for both of them. He understood they felt it was time to move on after seven years, but it turned out that would have been their last season anyway. He felt bad they didn’t get to fully participate.
I think with anything you do for a long time, you eventually reach a point where you can’t keep doing it indefinitely. You have to eventually decide you want to try something new.
Several beloved characters returned for the show’s final season, including Dominic West, who plays Dr. Chris, Vinnie’s morally questionable doctor. He first connected with Joe Gilgun on the set of the 2014 film Pride, and their friendship led to Joe sharing the life experiences that ultimately became the basis for Brassic.
West described Joe as the funniest person he’s ever known, praising him as a talented actor and performer. He recalled being particularly impressed by Joe’s performance in the opening of This Is England, where Joe played the character Woody. West noted that the entire scene was improvised by Joe, highlighting his natural comedic timing and skill.
Brassic really showcases how talented he is – he’s a phenomenal actor. Honestly, I think my performance in Pride would have been even stronger if I hadn’t spent so much time with him on set! He kept me laughing so hard, I was practically in tears the entire time we filmed. But that film is where our friendship started, and now we’re working together again on this project!
He admitted he was sad to see it end. He found it hard to believe this was the final season and said he’d loved every moment, hoping the fans had too. He praised Joe Gilgun as a creative force and expressed his hope that their work had showcased that talent to the world.
