The anime film Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has quickly become the year’s biggest anime hit since its release earlier in 2024. Following the success of previous Demon Slayer films from Studio Ufotable, Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps’ battle inside Muzan’s fortress has already earned over $650 million worldwide. Though the film’s run in Japanese theaters is over and it’s nearing the end of its run in the US, it’s still performing strongly. With an upcoming release planned, Demon Slayer has a good chance of reaching a remarkable $1 billion at the box office.
It’s not uncommon for movies to not be released in China due to the country’s strict censorship rules. However, surprisingly, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has been approved for release there. The news was announced on a new Chinese social media account for the Demon Slayer franchise, revealing the film will arrive on November 14th. Maoyan Pictures will handle the release, and while it doesn’t guarantee the movie will reach $1 billion worldwide, it’s a significant boost to that possibility.
Will Demon Slayer Defeat Demon Slayer Again?
For fans of Demon Slayer, the Infinity Castle arc isn’t the end of the story. Two more movies are planned to complete the trilogy, and while details are scarce, they have the potential to be even more successful than the first film. Anime is becoming increasingly popular, and Demon Slayer has played a major role in that growth. When the remaining movies are released, they could each earn over a billion dollars at the box office.
Anime fans may be saddened to learn that the Demon Slayer movies could be the last time we see the Hashira. The original manga series finished in 2020 with what felt like a definitive ending for Tanjiro and his friends. Since then, the creator, Koyoharu Gotouge, hasn’t suggested any plans for a sequel or spin-off, though many fans would love to see more stories from this world.
Although Infinity Castle is currently the most successful anime film ever made, it wasn’t the only hit of 2025. Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc didn’t quite reach the same heights as Demon Slayer, but it topped the North American box office during its opening weekend. Anime’s popularity is increasing globally, and we may soon see many more films, like Demon Slayer, earn over $1 billion at the box office.
