Robert Pattinson first became famous for roles in Harry Potter and the Twilight series, but has since reinvented himself as a critically acclaimed actor. He deliberately moved away from typical teen heartthrob roles, choosing to work with diverse and often unconventional filmmakers on smaller, artistic projects. While these films weren’t always huge commercial successes, they established him as a talented and interesting performer. Now, he’s reaching a point where he can balance both artistic credibility and large-scale franchise work.
Robert Pattinson’s career has been gaining momentum, starting with his leading role in The Batman, which he’ll return to for a sequel. He’s also joined Denis Villeneuve for Dune: Part Three. Given the success of the previous Dune film, expectations for the sequel are high, and Pattinson’s involvement is generating even more buzz. In a recent conversation with IndieWire, Pattinson briefly discussed working on the new Dune movie while talking about the challenges of memorizing lines, saying:
I’ve filmed 19 movies consecutively now, and surprisingly, it’s really improved my memory. It’s a nice benefit! When we were shooting Dune, the desert heat was so intense that I stopped thinking critically. It was actually quite relaxing – my brain felt completely switched off, like I wasn’t using any brainpower at all. I just did whatever the director, Denis Villeneuve, asked.
Robert Pattinson’s Future Is Bright – And His Casting Is Great For Dune 3
Robert Pattinson is likely to play Scytale in Dune: Part Three. In the source material, Dune Messiah, Scytale is a Face Dancer – someone who can change their appearance – which will give Pattinson a chance to really showcase his acting skills. He’ll be a key villain, putting him in direct conflict with Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides. With the Dune films already being so well-received and featuring a strong cast, adding Pattinson makes the next installment even more anticipated, and he’s hinted that this role offers him a lot of creative freedom.
The next few years look promising for Robert Pattinson. He’ll star alongside Jennifer Lawrence in the black comedy-drama Die My Love, coming out November 7th, and then appear with Zendaya in the romantic drama, The Drama, on April 3rd. Both actors are also part of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, scheduled for release on July 17th, 2026. Pattinson will reprise his role as Batman in The Batman: Part II, which is slated to hit theaters on October 1st, 2027.
However, his part in Dune: Part Three could be his most successful film of 2026, particularly since his role in the upcoming Odyssey is expected to be minor. Considering Part Two was an exceptional film, expectations for the third installment are very high. Pattinson has a strong track record in science fiction, delivering great performances in High Life, Tenet, and Mickey 17. While those films weren’t huge box office hits, Dune is likely to reach a much wider audience, potentially making this his biggest and best sci-fi film yet.
Dune: Part Three releases on December 18th, 2026.
