The DC Universe has plenty of roles to fill. With the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, a new villain will emerge, forcing Superman and Lex Luthor to work together. James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, is likely considering actors who can handle such a weighty part. He’s also busy with casting for roles like Wonder Woman. However, despite wanting to discuss Diana Prince and the new villain, Gunn will likely keep getting questions about Batman until there’s concrete news about that character.
The Batman casting search is still heating up, and it feels like a new name pops up every day! Alan Ritchson recently said he chatted with James Gunn about potentially playing the Dark Knight, but he doesn’t think it’s going to happen for him. Interestingly, not everyone wants to be Batman. Some actors are perfectly happy taking on supporting roles, as long as they get a good, meaty part to play. Speaking of which, one actor who’s been rumored for Nightwing is finally speaking out about how much he wants the role – and he’s also hinted at another DC character he’d love to portray.
Lewis Tan recently told ComicBook that he’s a fan of the online support for him to play Nightwing. “I really love that project and I’ve seen the fan castings – I’m very grateful for the support,” he said. He’s particularly drawn to the character, saying Nightwing is someone he’d be excited to portray and that he feels he could bring a fresh take to the role. He also expressed interest in playing Red Hood, envisioning a grittier, more intense interpretation of the character. He’s a fan of both heroes.
Lewis Tan’s DC Comments Are Music to Fans’ Ears

When considering who could play Nightwing, Lewis Tan is a strong contender. His skills in martial arts would make performing the character’s action sequences believable, and he has experience with superhero films, having played Shatterstar in both Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. James Gunn often lets actors work on projects for both DC and Marvel, and Tan could be the next one to do so.
James Gunn’s willingness to explore darker stories, as seen with the Clayface project, suggests he wouldn’t shy away from the intense nature of the Red Hood character. Jason Todd, a.k.a. Red Hood, hasn’t yet appeared in a live-action film, possibly due to his violent tendencies. However, with Gunn at the helm, a more mature, R-rated Red Hood film could finally give this complex and often misunderstood Batman sidekick the spotlight he deserves.
Safe House is in theaters now.
