Neve Campbell is returning as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7, and her involvement confirms a long-held fan theory. She didn’t appear in the sixth Scream movie due to contract disagreements, but she’s back for the seventh installment and once again finds herself targeted by Ghostface. The trailer for Scream 7 reveals that Sid will be forced to confront her past in Woodsboro, making this a particularly personal and challenging battle with the killer.
This time, Ghostface isn’t just targeting Sidney, but her entire family – including her husband, Mark (Joel McHale), and her daughter, played by Isabel May. The trailer revealed a touching connection to the original film: Sidney’s daughter is also named Tatum, after Sid’s best friend and Dewey’s sister, who was famously played by Rose McGowan. The first Tatum had a particularly memorable and tragic death in the original Scream, and Sidney named her daughter in her honor. Now, Sidney is desperately hoping her daughter can avoid the same fate.
Tatum Makes Scream 7 Worse For Sidney Prescott

As a huge Scream fan, I have to say bringing Tatum back into the mix as a Ghostface target is brutal for Sidney. It’s honestly her worst nightmare realized – not just facing this all over again herself, but seeing her family drawn into the danger. And the fact that her daughter is named after Tatum Lynn just makes it so much worse. It feels like everything’s come full circle, and what was meant to be a sweet tribute is now a terrifying echo of the past, reminding her of what happened the first time Ghostface went after Tatum.
Despite being named Tatum, the trailer hints that this new character will be a lot like her mother, Sidney. She even wears the same jacket Sid wore in Scream 2 and expresses a desire to be a “fighter,” mirroring a line Sidney said earlier in the series. Tatum doesn’t plan to run from Ghostface; she’s ready to confront him head-on, suggesting she’ll be one of the movie’s final girls.
As a longtime fan, I’ve always known Sidney’s life is tragically intertwined with the Ghostface killings, but usually with the victims. It’s wild to remember her half-brother Roman was the killer in Scream 3, and her cousin Jill was one of the murderers in Scream 4! I’m pretty sure the filmmakers won’t pull that same family-member-as-Ghostface twist again – hopefully we won’t get another reveal like Tatum being the killer – but honestly, with this series, you can never be completely sure!
Even if that weren’t happening, Sidney Prescott is facing a resurgence of figures from her past. Roman and Stu Macher are both set to reappear, and the new Ghostface seems connected to their shared history – specifically, the place where they all grew up. The trailer hints at this with the burning of the Macher house. This past – from Sidney’s time in Woodsboro with Tatum Riley to her life as a mother with her own daughter, Tatum – will all come crashing down in a terrifying way.
Scream 7 will be released on February 27th, 2026.
