Predator: Badlands Reviews & RT Score Is Dan Trachtenberg’s Weakest

The new movie, Predator: Badlands, comes out on November 7, 2025. Early reviews are starting to appear, and while it’s currently the lowest-rated of director Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator films, it’s still receiving very positive feedback.

What are the Predator: Badlands reviews saying?

I was really excited to see how the new Predator: Badlands series was being received, and it’s doing great! It opened with an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which makes it the third best-reviewed thing in the whole Predator universe. But, looking specifically at director Dan Trachtenberg’s work, it’s actually his lowest-rated project so far – Prey and 10 Cloverfield Lane both scored higher. Still, 87% is nothing to sneeze at!

Even though it didn’t score very high, the film Badlands is receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews. Richard Lawson of The Hollywood Reporter noted the film aims to be the best it can be within the Predator franchise, and William Bibbiani of TheWrap argued that it proves action blockbusters don’t have to be bad.

David Fear from Rolling Stone described the movie as a funny road trip story, balancing humor from the characters’ interactions with the over-the-top action involving alien creatures. Jonathan Sim of ComingSoon also enjoyed it, noting that the film delivers both what fans expect from a Predator movie and surprising new elements.

Dan Trachtenberg directed and produced ‘Predator: Badlands,’ also co-writing the script with Patrick Aison. The film is based on characters originally created by Jim and John Thomas. This is Trachtenberg’s third time working on a ‘Predator’ project, following the 2022 prequel ‘Prey’ and the animated Disney+ film ‘Killers of Killers.’ John Davis, Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt, and Brent O’Connor also produced the movie. Notably, ‘Badlands’ has received a PG-13 rating, a first for a main ‘Predator’ film.

The new film, Badlands, is set on a dangerous, faraway planet. It tells the story of a young Predator who’s been exiled (played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) and teams up with Thia (Elle Fanning, known for her Emmy and Golden Globe nominations) on a risky quest to find a powerful enemy.
