This spy-themed show can be streamed using a Prime Video subscription and received high praise from critics, ultimately leading to a second season renewal. However, it was announced that Season 2 would bring a significant change, as the main characters, previously played by Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, will be replaced by new actors. I’m excited about these replacements, but there’s one thing I’m still eager to find out: who will take on these iconic roles.

It appears that the producers have decided to bring in two rising stars, Sophie Thatcher and Mark Eydelshteyn, as the lead characters for Season 2. At this point, Amazon Prime Video has not officially confirmed the castings.
Sophie Thatcher has secured some notable roles lately and can boast films such as “The Boogeyman” and “Heretic”. This year, she was applauded for her leading role in the thriller “Companion”. On top of that, Thatcher stars in the critically acclaimed Showtime drama “Yellowjackets”, and generated attention for her part in the “Star Wars” series “The Book of Boba Fett”. Mark Eydelshteyn, on the other hand, has worked on many international projects, but gained recognition for his performance in the Best Picture winner “Anora”.
In the realm of Amazon’s Emmy-nominated dramedy series, there might be a shakeup among the on-screen cast members, but the creative team appears to be holding steady. The duo behind the scenes, Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane, are coming back as Executive Producers, with Sloane maintaining her role as showrunner as well. I’m reassured by this continuity in the crew, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will pave the way for the one aspiration I still harbor for Season 2.
There’s A Major Plot Thread That Needs To Be Resolved During Mr. And Mrs. Smith Season 2
I’m genuinely thrilled about the arrival of two fresh actors leading Mr. & Mrs. Smith, as the concept of it transforming into an anthology series intrigued me. Yet, despite my admiration for Donald Glover and Maya Erskine’s performances, I found myself torn about their return. Nevertheless, the prospect of witnessing a brand new duo embodying the iconic characters is quite enticing. However, I hope that rather than erasing all traces, some aspects of Erskine and Glover’s characters will be preserved in the storyline.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 1 Guest Stars: A List Of Who’s Appeared In The Amazon Prime Series
I’m eagerly anticipating a conclusion to the dramatic cliffhanger at the end of Season 1. In the finale, Erskine’s “Jane” and Glover’s “John” are cornered in a secure room following an attack by two agents from their own agency. As the other “Jane” advances and Glover’s character is severely wounded, Erskine’s character readies to fire, only for the camera to switch to the outside of their building and reveal three gunshots being discharged.
I find the uncertain ending intriguing, but I’d still appreciate some insight into what transpired there. To be honest, a brief follow-up about the characters’ outcomes, even as part of backstory or exposition, would suffice for me. Ideally, I hope this series will evolve into an interconnected universe similar to ‘Fargo’. A nod to its original characters, Jane and John, could help move it in that direction.
Without a doubt, it’s hard to predict what will unfold in Season 2 since the creators are keeping the plot details secret. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that as characters played by Mark Eydelshteyn and Sophie Thatcher develop, there might be references to their predecessors. For now, I recommend watching the first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and don’t forget to take advantage of Prime Day 2025 deals!
