Update [Wed 5th Nov 2025, 2:45pm]:
Recent tests of the new PlayStation 5 update for Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection show that input lag has been lessened, though not significantly.
In earlier tests, expert Nigel Woodall measured input lag in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 at about 108 milliseconds. After the new patch was applied, that lag decreased to around 91 milliseconds.
While the latency isn’t terrible, it’s still noticeably higher than on consoles like the Xbox Series X (around 51ms) and even the upcoming Switch 2 (around 73ms), meaning there’s potential to make it much faster.
A new update has been released for the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. This patch significantly improves responsiveness by reducing input lag in all of the games included in the collection.
We’re still waiting for official tests to see exactly how much the update improved the initial 100ms delay, but our first experience shows games definitely feel more responsive after installing it.
The patch incudes all of the following fixes and improvements:
- Input latency improvements across all games (PS4/PS5)
- Improved audio buffer for online play
- Fixed connection filter setting not working properly
- Various fixes to the Fatality Timer option
- Combos have been added to moves list for relevant titles
- Fix for MK3 (Genesis) cheat menus not unlocking properly
- Restored missing audio in 32X MKII
- Additional improvements to MK4
- Fixed issue that caused UMK3 to reboot after Scorpion fatality
- General stability improvements for Genesis titles
- Pause button hold time reduced by 50%
- One-Button Fatalities added for all arcade titles
- General stability updates to Music Player
- Minor localization corrections
- Some fixes to MK Trilogy Training Mode
This update is a direct response to player feedback and should fix the most noticeable problems people have been experiencing.
As we mentioned earlier this week, some players are disappointed with the artificial intelligence in the retro arcade games. While the AI accurately recreates the original game feel, it doesn’t always make for fun gameplay because of how it responds to your commands.
It will be interesting to see if the game developers address player feedback and add easier difficulty options. Many players are struggling, and Sony is even offering refunds, so a change seems necessary.
