Filming has begun in New Zealand for the movie based on The Legend of Zelda, a joint project between Sony and Nintendo.
The Film and Television Industry Alliance website now shows the project is actively being filmed, having previously indicated it was still in the planning stages. Shooting began on November 4th, 2025, and is expected to finish on April 7th, 2026. All filming will take place in Wellington, New Zealand.
Here’s the movie description on the page:
This movie brings the popular ‘Legend of Zelda’ video game to life. It tells the story of Link, a brave young hero tasked with saving the magical kingdom of Hyrule from evil. Hyrule is threatened by Ganon, a powerful and cruel warlord who wants to claim the Triforce – a legendary artifact that promises ultimate power. Link must undertake a dangerous adventure, fighting monsters, navigating challenging dungeons, and solving complex puzzles to find sacred objects that will help him defeat Ganon and save the kingdom.
Not much is known about the film yet, as an official trailer hasn’t been released. However, we do know it’s scheduled to come out in theaters on May 7, 2027, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth playing Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda. Sony is helping to fund and distribute the movie.
