November kicked off with a large wave of new movies added to Paramount+, including many timeless favorites. One film, in particular, might be easy to miss – it didn’t generate much buzz when it originally came out. However, it’s an important work by director Joseph Kosinski, known for popular films like Tron: Legacy and Top Gun: Maverick.
Following his work on Tron: Legacy and Oblivion, director Joseph Kosinski made the firefighting drama Only the Brave in 2017. While it’s not as widely known as some of his other films, many consider it his second-best, after Top Gun: Maverick. It also clearly shows Kosinski developing the skills and style he’d later use on Top Gun: Maverick, making it a worthwhile watch for fans of that blockbuster.
If you haven’t already, you should definitely add Only the Brave to your watchlist on Paramount+. This movie is based on the real story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a courageous team of firefighters who battled a massive wildfire to protect their community.
This film is a stunning technical achievement and arguably Kosinski’s most moving work. It boasts an impressive cast, including several actors who have collaborated with the director on previous projects. Jeff Bridges returns after working with Kosinski on Tron: Legacy, while Miles Teller and Jennifer Connelly joined him following their experience on Top Gun: Maverick. The film also features strong performances from Josh Brolin, James Badge Dale, Taylor Kitsch, Ben Hardy, and Andie MacDowell.
