Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is returning to acting after nearly ten years. She’s starring in a new comedy movie being made by Amazon MGM Studios.
Not much is known about the story yet, but the new movie, Close Personal Friends, brings together the team who made the Prime Video romantic comedy, I Want You Back. Isaac Aptaker, who also co-ran the show Love, Victor, wrote the script, and Jason Orley (known for Bupkis) is directing.
The project has successfully drawn in several well-known actors, including Brie Larson, the Academy Award-winning star of Captain Marvel and the acclaimed film Room. She is one of four lead actors involved.
Lily Collins, known for ‘Emily in Paris,’ Jack Quaid from ‘The Boys,’ and Henry Golding of ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’ are all part of the project, and it appears the actor-turned-royal is joining them too.
Meghan is expected to make a brief appearance as herself in a new movie currently being filmed in Los Angeles. A release date hasn’t been announced yet, according to Variety.
Sources say the new story will center around a famous couple whose paths cross with two ordinary people while they’re on vacation, and their lives become intertwined.
This movie marks Meghan’s return to acting after a nearly eight-year break. She stepped away from her acting career when she got engaged to Prince Harry to begin preparing for her life as a member of the Royal Family.
After stepping back from their roles as senior royals, Harry and Meghan have created a number of documentaries for Netflix. These include Heart of Invictus, a series about the Invictus Games, a documentary focused on polo, and their newest project, With Love, Meghan, which offers a look into the Duchess’s lifestyle.
Before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan Markle was widely recognized for her role as Rachel Zane on the TV show Suits. She was a regular cast member for the first seven seasons of the nine-season series.
The show features a talented cast including Anna Konkle, known for PEN15, Melissa Villaseñor from Saturday Night Live, Natasia Demetriou of What We Do in the Shadows, Jack Shalloo (The Tower), Patti Harrison (Poker Face), and Dustin Demri-Burns (Am I Being Unreasonable?).
Close Personal Friends is coming soon to Prime Video.
