The new season of Return to Paradise is now on BBC One, and viewers who watched the first episode saw the return of Ardal O’Hanlon, a popular actor from the show Death in Paradise.
Currently, O’Hanlon is the only character connecting this show to the larger ‘Paraverse’ universe, which also includes ‘Death in Paradise’ and its spin-off, ‘Beyond Paradise’.
Anna Samson suggested getting the Paraverse detectives together for something fun, maybe even just a dinner. She feels a strong pull towards connecting with each other and exploring the different worlds they investigate, and believes it would be a really positive experience.
It would be funny to imagine all those quirky detectives from the show at a dinner party. I’m sure they’d all clash, but it would be hilarious to watch. I wonder if anyone besides Kris Marshall’s character would actually be able to hold a conversation?
Tai Hara and Lloyd Griffith, stars of Return to Paradise, shared that Kris Marshall – known for his roles in Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise – was nearly going to make a cameo on their show, but they couldn’t find a time that worked with his schedule.

Griffith mentioned Hara expressed interest in visiting Cornwall. Hara confirmed they’d recently discussed Cornwall with Rick Stein while in Sydney, and they’re always enthusiastic about opportunities for collaboration, especially with Ardal.
Griffith said they’ve been working really long days – around 12 to 13 hours – and it was difficult to coordinate filming because their schedules didn’t match up with his.
Hara playfully suggested that Kris couldn’t join because his hair and makeup appointments took too long, and they simply didn’t have enough time in the schedule.
I overheard both of them saying they’re really hoping to visit Guadeloupe someday. And Hara specifically mentioned they’d be thrilled to see more crossovers – any kind, really – in future projects. It’s clear they’re open to all sorts of collaborations!
Marshall has previously suggested a special episode bringing together all the detectives from ‘Death in Paradise,’ saying he’d be thrilled to see the five of them appear together on screen.
Several actors have played the lead detective in the series, including Ben Mitchell, Marshall, O’Hanlon, Ralf Little, Don Gilet, and Samson. However, bringing Ben Mitchell back for a crossover would be difficult since his character died in season 3 of Death in Paradise.
Return to Paradise season 2 will continue at 8pm on Friday 7th November on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
