4 Marvel Heroes That Could Have Easily Defeated Galactus in The Fantastic Four: First Steps

At the beginning of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, life is peaceful on Earth-828 thanks to Reed Richards, who has provided the world with advanced technology for both everyday life and prosperity. When problems arise that he can’t solve alone, he relies on his friends and teammates: Ben Grimm, Johnny Storm, and Sue Storm. Together, they consistently defeat any villains they face—until the Silver Surfer arrives with a dire warning about the coming of Galactus.

Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, is threatening to destroy Earth, but he’d be content with just taking Franklin Richards as his apprentice. The heroes of the story can’t let either of those things happen, so they attempt to send Galactus through a portal to a distant part of the universe. While the team works together, some individual heroes could have easily handled the situation. Here are four Marvel characters who could have defeated Galactus in First Steps.

4) Sentry

Many fans consider Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to have created the most powerful character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Thunderbolts, she aims to build someone stronger than all the Avengers, and she achieves this with Bob Reynolds. However, Bob struggles with a dangerous alternate personality that almost destroys New York City.

We don’t need to bring in extra help for Galactus. Sentry is strong enough to push him through the portal on his own, and the Void can remain on standby. Galactus would be wise to go along with it, because if he fought the Void, it wouldn’t end well for him.

3) Captain Marvel

Before Galactus became the ultimate threat, Thanos was the MCU’s most powerful villain. He defeated many heroes, and few survived. Captain Marvel briefly managed to slow him down during the battle in Avengers: Endgame, even when he had all the Infinity Stones.

Captain Marvel is incredibly fast and strong, more than enough to defeat Galactus. Some believe she’s so powerful she could even carry him across the galaxy with ease. Her biggest weakness isn’t her power, but her tendency to arrive late to the fight.

2) Makkari

The movie Eternals is often considered the odd one out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel Studios seems to want to move past it. However, with characters as powerful as those featured, that’s not really possible, especially considering the scale of a threat like Galactus. While characters like Ikaris and Thena might seem like good opponents for Galactus, Makkari actually fits the role of a key player in the initial stages of the conflict – what could be called First Steps – the best.

I’ve been following the story of the Fantastic Four, and it’s amazing how the Silver Surfer stepped up when she turned against Galactus! She used her super speed to force him into that portal, completing their mission. It reminds me of Makkari – she’s incredibly fast too, though she can’t fly. Luckily, she can usually get a lift from one of her teammates when she needs to cover long distances.

1) Thor

Thor, the God of Thunder, is the Marvel hero who actually wants another huge battle. He’s faced down major threats like Loki, Ultron, Hela, and Thanos, and isn’t afraid of what’s next. Even with a daughter to protect, he’ll always jump into the fight, particularly if children are in danger.

Thor, like the others on this list, is incredibly strong and fast. However, his years of fighting might give him the unique understanding needed to truly defeat Galactus, not just temporarily. Even a being as powerful as Galactus – ancient and enormous – has limits to how much energy they can withstand.
